COVID-19:

Everyone should avoid non-essential trips in the community. Avoid close contact and keep a distance of 6 feet (2 metres) from others. Everyone has a role to play. The actions you take will protect you, loved ones and those most vulnerable in our community. It’s time to step up, not out.

Tips to Prevent the Spread

The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed:

Limit non-essential trips out of your home.
Keep two metres/six feet distance from others.
Wear a mask or face covering if you can’t keep physical distance.
Clean your hands often. Use soap and water or an alcohol-based (70-90%) hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue. Immediately throw the tissue in the garbage and wash your hands.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home if you are feeling unwell.

Updated Timeline for Reopening Plans

TDSB's projected timeline continues to evolve as meetings are scheduled and finalized with key stakeholders. Here is the most recent timeline, as of July 3. You can also access information from the Board's website here.

Please remember, the TDSB does not have the ability to make its own decision regarding re-opening... the Minister of Education will be making this decision.

All school boards have been asked to prepare for three scenarios - returning to school, hybrid/adaptive model and remote learning.

We would like our students and staff to return safely to school in September. We will prepare for all eventualities; however we must follow the lead of the government and public health. Please note staff's first draft of reopening plans will be shared at a Special Meeting on Wednesday, July 15 beginning at 4pm.

Delegation Process - Addressing a Committee

Delegation requests will still be accepted during the closure of all schools and administrative sites at the Toronto District School Board; however, oral delegations to address a committee of the Board will be presented by phone. To submit a delegation request (written or oral), please refer to the information here https://www.tdsb.on.ca/Leadership/Boardroom/Delegations and email delegates@tdsb.on.ca. If your request is approved, further details will be provided to you via email.

Budget Update: July 6, 2020

The TDSB’s Financial Position and Draft Operating Budget for 2020-21 is being presented to Trustees at a Special FBEC meeting on Tuesday, July 7. Staff are not recommending any reductions or changes to current operations so that all efforts can be focussed on re-opening the system safely, with staff and student health and well-being prioritized. That said, staff are recommending an additional $22.5M in Covid-19 related costs for the first four months of the new budget (September-December). Since the projected operating deficit is primarily due to additional COVID-19 costs, staff are recommending the use of reserves to offset the projected deficit, and are requesting that the Ministry of Education provides additional funding to support school boards as they navigate opening schools back up safely next year.

This year, as a result of the closure of schools and cancellation of in-person meetings at the TDSB due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two virtual budget town hall meetings will be held to ensure that the community has an opportunity to hear directly from staff about the 2020-21 budget, and also ask questions and provide feedback. Join Us - Online Groups for Students Who Identify as Black

Black students in Grades 9 to 12 are invited to join our virtual support group. Drop ins are welcome every Tuesday and Thursdays at 3 p.m. until the end of July for students who identify as Black as a way to share and learn in a community to support each other and stay well. Topics you may choose to talk about or learn about include:

talking to other students

stress management

knowing your rights when stopped by the police

know your rights in the TDSB

Black history

how to appeal marks

how raise concerns in school

mental health

physical health

how to address arguments with friends and family

School Year Calendar 2020-2021

Pending Ministry Approval

The TDSB’s draft 2020-21 school year calendar has been posted to the website at https://www.tdsb.on.ca/About-Us/School-Year-Calendar/2020-2021-Calendar. Please note that the calendar has not yet been approved by the Ministry of Education.

NOTE: The Ministry recently released updated guidelines and deadlines for the 2020-21 school year calendar. Staff will be reviewing the guidelines and where needed get further clarification, and will be advising as to what adjustments to the TDSB school calendar may, could or will need to be made.

The official school year calendar for the Toronto District School Board runs from September 1 to June 30, inclusive.

First day of school for students is September 8, 2020 (please note there is no school for students on September 4)

The last day of class for elementary students is June 29, 2021
The last day of class for secondary (full year) students is June 25, 2021
The last day of class for secondary (semestered) students is June 28, 2021
