Young Alumni Award The 2018 Young Alumni Award was presented to Mark Switzer, '11 & '14, at December Commencement in recognition of his tireless efforts to remove barriers to education and create inclusive spaces within his community. Switzer earned his bachelor’s degree in film and video and his master’s degree in school counseling, both from Grand Valley. He now supports students academically and socially as the career counselor at Gogebic Community College.

Community Outreach Week 2019 Join us for a week of service on March 23-30. We are celebrating the 10th year of Community Outreach Week and looking to engage more Lakers than ever! During this award-winning week of service, you can volunteer on your own, with a group, or create a service project that other Lakers can join in order to give back to local communities in the name of Grand Valley. Arts at Noon
The 2018-19 Arts at Noon winter concert series at Grand Valley continues January 16 with Grand Rapids’ own Perugino Quartet. All Arts at Noon concerts will take place on the Allendale Campus, are free to attend and open to the public, begin at noon, and last approximately one hour. There will be six concerts beginning in January through April 10.

Discounted Rec Membership for Alumni
The GVSU Rec Center on the Allendale Campus is offering reduced-rate alumni memberships. Memberships can have a 1-month, 6-month and 12-month duration and allow access to the Recreation Center, Sport Courts, and Aquatics Facility. Get in on this great deal and utilize the Recreation Center.

Grant Will Support Aging in Place by Providing Onsite Care to Low-Income Seniors
Through a $493,690 grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, teams of Grand Valley faculty members and students will provide onsite care to older adults and senior citizens who are income-eligible or disabled. The project will begin in January at two locations: Reflections, a senior housing community managed by Dwelling Place in southeast Grand Rapids that maintains 60 units; and Mount Mercy Apartments, a 180-unit building on Grand Rapids' northwest side managed by the Grand Rapids Housing Commission.

Club Sport Highlight: Rifle Club Competes in Great Lakes Invitational On January 7, the GVSU Rifle Club competed in the Great Lakes Invitational which consisted of two different disciplines, smallbore rifle and precision air rifle. In the smallbore match, the Lakers were led by junior, Alexander Straith who placed fourth overall and second best in the collegiate category.
