Dear alumni, students, faculty and staff:
|
I am pleased to share several developments across Kummer College from the past month that reflect the continued momentum of our students, alumni and partners as they translate ideas into meaningful impact.
From alumni launching a custom arcade business in St. Louis to the opening of the Missouri Protoplex supporting advanced manufacturing, these stories exemplify how applied learning and industry collaboration create real value. They highlight the many pathways our students pursue, such as careers in the business of fashion to advocating for fellow veterans, demonstrating how entrepreneurship and innovation shape individual success and community impact.
We’re also seeing great progress in our global engagement efforts, with students competing internationally to address health challenges and new partnership opportunities through Team Innovation Projects (TIP). These initiatives reflect our approach to preparing graduates for leadership while strengthening connections between academia and industry.

Business in style: Raksha Thiagarajan’s path to fashion |
|
|
|
For sophomore information science and technology (IST) student Raksha Thiagarajan, identity has always come in layers. She was raised in St. Louis by parents who immigrated from India, so she grew up with two different cultures. Blending those cultures influenced her academic path and her dream career: working in fashion — not as a designer, but in business.

Team Innovation Projects expands global collaboration efforts |
During recent visits to universities in Taiwan, Team Innovation Projects (TIP) Director of Corporate Partnerships Shou Wong met with academic and global engagement leaders to explore opportunities for international collaboration and student mobility.
At National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), discussions with Professor and Director of Office of International Affairs Tsunglin Liu and Maxine Yang focused on the TIP model as a bridge between academia and industry, and potential dual-degree programs and research collaborations.
At National Taiwan University (NTU), meetings with Deputy Director of Global Engagement Wendy Chen and Global Engagement Manager Makaela Burch centered on advancing global innovation and student mobility.
The visit to National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) included discussions with Dean Jeremy J.W. Chen and Vice Dean Pin Ju Chueh about building an international partnership with S&T to expand the global reach of TIP.
A meeting at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) with Ching Yao (Hank) Huang, vice president of the Office of Industry-Academia Co-Creation; Michael Lin, CEO of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center; and Roy T. Wang, CEO of the International Industry-Academia Center, resulted in an agreement to launch a joint project targeted for spring 2027. This collaboration will pair S&T and NYCU students to address real-world challenges for corporate sponsors, creating a high-impact talent pipeline for international experiential learning. The discussion led to the formation of a working team, with plans underway to pursue a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This initiative solidifies NYCU as a key partner.
