Join us for a delightful morning dedicated to the beauty and joy of spring flowering bulbs. The event kicks off at 10:00am with an engaging talk on spring flowering bulbs, presented by the NRV Master Gardeners from the Virginia Cooperative Extension. At 11:00am, take part in our Bulb Exchange—bring your favorite bulbs to swap and discover new varieties from fellow gardeners. In honor of our 50th Anniversary and Dutch heritage, Warm Hearth will provide tulip bulbs for all attendees. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to celebrate gardening and community!

HURRICANE HELENE RELIEF EFFORT

We’re collecting cleaning supplies and shelf-stable food items at the Karr Activity Center (2603 Warm Hearth Drive, Blacksburg) to help our neighbors in Giles County impacted by the hurricane. If you’d like to support the cleanup efforts, please drop off any of the following items between 9am and 5pm this week:

• Bleach
• Disinfectant wipes/cleaners
• Large trash bags
• Rakes, mops, or brooms
• Cleaning rags
• Paper towels
• Shelf-stable food

FREE KIDNEY SCREENING

Join us for a free kidney screening on October 25, from 9am to 11am at the Village Center, 2387 Warm Hearth Drive, in partnership with KDSAPVT (Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness Program - VT Chapter).

One in seven U.S. adults has Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), but most don’t know it. This simple, needle-free screening takes 10-20 minutes and helps with early detection of CKD.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a reminder that cancer risk increases with age. While some factors are beyond our control, eating a balanced diet and staying on top of screenings can lower your risk.

Include cancer-fighting foods like berries, leafy greens, and whole grains in your diet. At the same time, limit processed foods and sugar.

Don’t forget to schedule regular breast cancer screenings—early detection is key to successful treatment. This month, prioritize your health by combining healthy eating with routine check-ups!

HOKIE SPIRIT DAY AND HOMECOMING CELEBRATIONS

Show your Hokie pride by wearing your maroon and orange for our Village Hokie Spirit Day on October 18th! Join us at 4pm as the Marching Virginians perform fight songs in the field across from the Kroontje Health Care Center. This lively performance will surely get you tapping your toes and renewing your support for our beloved college team. Afterward, we invite you to socialize at our Kroontje and Showalter Centers. Then, gear up for the Homecoming Parade on October 25th from 6 to 8 PM. The parade will travel between Virginia Tech's campus and downtown Blacksburg, culminating in a spirit rally and fireworks on the Virginia Tech Drillfield.
