Important Deadline

Receive Academic Credit for Conducting Research in Winter 2019

Enroll in BISP 99, BISP 199 or BISP 197
Students can earn academic credit for conducting independent research with a faculty or industry mentor. Complete the required application and research plan to earn credit for Winter 2019 once you have identified a lab or faculty.

Deadline to apply for Winter 2019 is Friday, December 7th by 4:00PM. Details and web-based application links can be found on Research for Academic Credit.

Scholarship Opportunity

Gabriele Wienhasuen Biological Sciences Scholarship

$1,900 Award - only open to Biology majors

The Wienhausen Biological Sciences Scholarship is a highly competitive annual award presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic and community engagement while enrolled at UC San Diego. The scholarship promotes engagement in community service, leadership, and research by supporting students' participation in experiential learning opportunities on and off campus.
Scholarship is for biology majors who will be continuing on as undergraduates in the 2019-2020 year. For a complete list of eligibility requirements visit the Wienhausen Scholarship webpage.

UC Scholars Program

Applican will open in early December

Summer research program supported by UC San Diego, Student Affairs and the Academic Enrichment Programs. All majors are welcome to apply. International students attending UC are eligible to apply. The program provides students with the skills to become research scholars. Expected program dates will be June 2019-August 2019.

A letter of recommendation is required, start reaching out to faculty now.

Undergraduate Research Scholarships (URS)

A $5,000 scholarship to conduct research in summer 2019!

The application cycle for 2019 scholarships will open in early-December. UCSD students will need to find a faculty mentor and apply before February 1, 2019.

Applications require a letter of support and a research summary. Start your search early. You can narrow your search by selecting a research area and finding faculty that conduct research in that area. If you have question about the eligible research or the application process, please contact Dr. Sophia Tsai, the URS Program Officer at the Academic Enrichment Program.

EUREKA! Scholars Program 

$5,000 scholarship to conduct Biology research in summer 2019!

Similar to other URS, the application cycle for the 2019 EUREKA! scholarships will open in early-December. Students will need to find a faculty mentor and apply before February 1, 2019.

This scholarships is only open to Biolgy Majors. Applications require a letter of support and a research summary. If you have question about the eligible research or the application process, please contact Dr. Sophia Tsai, the URS Program Officer at the Academic Enrichment Program.

Medical Scientist Training Program

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
Sponsored by UC San Diego's School of Medicine, this 8-week research program allows students the opportunity to conduct research with faculty in biomedical sciences. They will also have an opportunity to conduct physican-scientist clinical shadowing. Program is open to students in their 1st-4th year. Must be a continuing undergrad in Fall 2019.

Accepted students will receive a stipend of $1,600/month + housing.

Amgen Scholars

Summer Research Program - Apply no later than by February 1, 2019
Amgen Scholars is hosted at 13 premier institutions within the United States, including UCLA, UC Berkeley, and Stanford University. Each host institution has its own application process. No previous research experience necessary. Open to sophomores and juniors interested in science and biotechnology. Financial stipend is provided for each scholar. For example, at UCLA, students will receive $3,600 + room and board.

UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program

Summer Research Program - Apply no later than by February 1, 2019
The UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program provides undergraduates the opportunity to explore the field of public health through hands-on training, structured workshops, group excursions, and leadership and professional development. Scholars are placed at partnering organizations throughout Los Angeles where they are exposed to the spectrum of public health practice and provided with professional mentors. Program is open to undergraduates from all institutions andthere is no GPA requirement.

Palomar Health Pathmaker Internship

2019 B Application Cycle will open January 1, 2019
The Pathmaker Internship Level II program is designed to provide a clinically-focused experience that gives pre-health students unprecedented access to direct patient care. Interns become valuable members of the patient care team alongside nurses, physicians and allied health professionals in inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.

Novartis Scientific Summer Scholars Program

Paid, full-time research opportunity
Our highly competitive Scientific Summer Scholars Program (June 3 - August 9, 2019) provides research training opportunities for top-tier students to gain research experience, enhance their preparation in applying to top graduate and professional programs, and expose them to NIBR's approaches to patient-driven research. Scholars work on their own project with the guidance of a NIBR scientist. NIBR's research covers many disease, science, and technology areas that allow us to closely match your specific interests with one of our labs.
