SMHS CFE Scholarly Writing Program
The GW SMHS Center for Faculty Excellence is offering a professional development
program designed to help faculty meet their personal writing and scholarly career goals.
The program is called the SMHS Scholarly Writing Program, which follows a peer mentoring and coaching model that meets regularly for 6 months and culminates in the submission of peer-reviewed manuscripts. The program consists of a structured curriculum to include modules from the Coursera Writing in the Sciences Course and assigned readings and pre-work from
a writing-for-publication text that will be provided to all participants.

The SMHS Scholarly Writing Program requires the completion/submission of an application
to select a limited number of participants. Applications are due December 29th, 2023.

Please visit our website to learn more about the program and submit an application

Please reach out to the SMHS Center for Faculty Excellence (cfe@gwu.edu) with any
questions about the SMHS Scholarly Writing Program.

Student Feedback on Faculty Feedback

As educators, we often question whether the feedback we give to our learners is effective. Are we giving them enough feedback? Is it detailed enough? And how important is the timing of the feedback? It's natural to have these doubts. However, we have some general guidelines that have been endorsed by both students and faculty members which can help clear things up.
Do you need help designing an educational session or using a new teaching technology? Come to our CFE Faculty Support Office Hours

Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with the CFE Instructional Designer

Teddy Hristov, the CFE Senior Instructional Designer, will hold weekly office hours starting in October to support faculty. These office hours are designated for discussing and practicing the best use of educational technology and pedagogical teaching/learning methods.

If this day and time does not work for you, please schedule an appointment directly with Teddy, teddy.hristov@gwu.edu.
CFE Online Modules
Here is a list of all currently available courses
Helpful guidelines to complete online CFE modules and ensure a successful learning experience with the technology:
  • disable your browser's pop-up blocker, as the learning modules pop up on a separate window
  • go through the learning module in one go - the system times out and you may get an error message that will prevent you from proceeding
  • if you need to pause, please close out the learning module window, and log out of your account on the main browser tab/window; the system will resume where you left off when you log in again to complete the course.
For questions and help regarding CFE online learning modules, please email us at teddy.hristov@gwu.edu.
