Pirate Tip of the Week: Embrace the Pause
|
Congratulations on finishing final exams! Now is the perfect time to unwind, reflect, and reset.
|
Here are a few ways to make the most of your break:
|
- Celebrate Your Wins: Big or small, acknowledge your accomplishments this semester.
- Take Care of You: Rest, enjoy family, friends, and hobbies, and reconnect with what makes you happy.
- Look Ahead: Jot down goals or intentions for the next semester— think about a plan on how to reach these goals.
|
Taking time for yourself now sets you up for success later. You've earned it!
|
Remember that we are stronger together. Please take care of yourself and each other.
|
We wish you the warmest wishes for a joyous and safe holiday season. We will resume our weekly email on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Are you prepared for winter travel?
|
-
In the winter, taking a little time to be prepared could save your life.
- Check your vehicles before the cold weather gets here. Keep your car winterized with antifreeze.
- Check the vehicle's tires and air pressure, and if necessary, install snow tires.
-
If traveling long distances, check on the weather reports for your destination and areas you may pass through on your way. The weather may be different and possibly dangerous along your route.
- Be sure family members know where you're going, the probable route you will be taking, and what time you plan on arriving and returning home.
-
In heavy snow, roads may become blocked or unpassable. Know of alternate routes you could take.
- In winter, if you become stuck, your car's engine may be the only way to stay warm. Never let your car gas tank go below half full.
- Always have a winter emergency travel kit in your car.
|
Your vehicle emergency kit should include the following:
|
- Good flashlight (not your cell phone)
- Small shovel
- Piece of old carpet
- Extra hat, gloves, coat, blanket
- Store some water/snacks (replace each season)
-
Coffee can (metal, not plastic), candle, and lighter (the candle can heat the metal can and provide additional heat until help arrives).
- Phone charger cord
- Reflective traffic vests
|
If your car gets stuck or breaks down,
|
-
Use the shovel to keep the tailpipe clear of snow.
- If it's safe, try to use the carpet to provide tire traction.
- Always wear reflective traffic vests, even in daylight.
- Wait inside the car for help and use the items from your emergency kit.
