Gaining Experience Through Internships

Can you believe it's already internship application season? Summer is the perfect time to broaden your student affairs experience by participating in an internship. NODA & ACUHO-I are two competitive summer internship programs to consider.
NODA offers a platform to facilitate the matching of motivated, quality students with challenging, exciting orientation, transition, and retention positions at NODA member institutions across the U.S. and Canada. The ACUHO-I Housing Internship Program is designed to match students interested in pursuing Student Affairs careers with internship opportunities spanning a variety of roles within the profession.
Position applications for both programs are now open and candidates will be contacted for next steps beginning February 16, 2021. While applications will be accepted until positions are filled, it is recommended that candidates complete the application as soon as possible. Please note that candidates must pay a $45 fee for ACUHO-I and a $60 membership + $20 fee for NODA in order to have access to positions.

Shout Out to Sierra!

While virtually attending the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors (AFA) in December, Sierra Skindzelewski (first year ELP graduate student) and her partner, a graduate student from Saint Louis University, placed second in the Order of Omega case study.
The case study was focused on crisis intervention and how to address a scenario filled with several complexities including event management, risk management and safety, alcohol consumption, racial inequities, organizational accountability, student advocacy against over-policing as well as University relations and mistrust.
There were 10 participants engaged in this case study track. We are very proud of Sierra’s success in this case study. Her approach to this scenario was thoughtful and consistent with best practices. Thank you, Sierra, for representing the University of Utah so well.
Learn more about Sierra and her supervisor Jess Turuc next week in our spotlights.

Calling All Actors

GBVC’s Utah Women’s Narratives (title subject to change) is a virtual production of monologues honoring the stories and lived experiences of women-identifying people of Utah. It aims to complicate our notions of gender, woman, and marginalized identities. As we are collecting written pieces, we are also seeking out actors who are interested in performing a story (which may be their own, and can also be others’ stories) for this project. Interested folks can submit an audition tape here or email gbvc@utah.edu. We invite all folks who identity as women in mind, body, or spirit to submit an audition tape. These monologues will be featured in a virtual production on April 15th, 2021.
Support your fellow ELP colleague Diane Lê Strain by sharing this opportunity with your networks.
