Over the last week or two, many of us have stepped back into the world of face-to-face professional conferences and the whirlwind of dynamic dialogues on the challenges and opportunities facing our disciplines, student success, and higher education writ large. In the last few days, I've had the privilege of participating in a joint convening hosted by the Association for Undergraduate Education at Research Universities (UERU) and the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) as well as EAB's national gathering: CONNECTED24. Each of these conferences offered new, exciting, and unique perspectives as well as spotlights on innovation—they also provided the chance to connect with peers, colleagues, and the special community of professionals who make up the collective: "higher education."
These gatherings not only highlighted the current challenges facing undergraduate education but also shed light on the sustained and immense potential it possesses as the cornerstone of engaging and educating the American mind. The discussions and proceedings also underscored the pivotal role undergraduate education plays in fostering liberal democracy and purposefully contributing to the American experiment in self-governance.
As we embark on 2024, I trust we can each commit ourselves anew to the work and joy of undergraduate education as a gateway to knowledge and opportunity, exploration and empowerment, mobility and fulfillment. We invite readers to learn more about the events and values of US and to seek out opportunities for partnership and collaboration with US!
And as always, Go Utah!
