A Message from CalABLE Executive Director Dante Allen

By now you have likely heard that CalABLE has gone through a significant change. We believe this change is so big, that we’ve been calling it CalABLE 2.0. But don’t worry, we are still the same program, established and operated by the state of California, that we were when CalABLE launched nearly five years ago.

The change is we have switched program administrators and are working with Vestwell State Savings. It’s a big change because we now have a new website, a new mailing address, several great new program features, including four new investment offerings, and even lower fees.

Change isn’t always an easy thing, so I want to thank our account holders for being patient with us during our transition. Hopefully the switchover went just as smoothly for all of you as it did for us. As a CalABLE account holder myself, I retrieved my account, changed my investment choices, ordered my new prepaid card and received it in the mail, all in less than 48 hours. If that hasn’t been your experience, please let us know. You can email us directly at CalABLE@treasurer.ca.gov to tell us how we did during this change, or for anything else you would like to talk with us about.

We have a very exciting Fall planned, including lots of local speaking engagements, so please stay tuned for CalABLE events in your area. We also plan to announce our new class of CalABLE Ambassadors soon. Thank you to all who applied to help us continue to spread the word about CalABLE.
