Happy New Year from the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, Arkansas
Happy New Year!
The staff of the Delta Cultural Center is excited to welcome 2022, and hope that everyone will have an amazing New Year.
We'd be avoiding the 50-pound gorilla in the room if we didn't acknowledge that the last few years have been challenging and many in our hometown of Helena and the surrounding areas felt the losses brought about by COVID-19. But we're resilient poeple here in the Delta. We draw strength from our roots and our heritage and that's why the Delta Cultural Center is committed to introducing the Arkansas Delta to the world. We do this through excellent musical events, educational opportunities and fascinating new exhibitions.
Fort Curtis is undergoing extensive renovation and is scheduled to reopen in the summer of 2022 for visitors. There are four Civil War Roundtables set for 2022, including Cathay Williams discussing the life of African American soldiers, Civil War Medicine, Ulysses S. Grant and the Vicksburg Campaign and Civil War Era Music. Watch our social media for dates and times for these events.
How long has it been since you've made a trip to the Delta? Our fascinating new exhibition about Mercantilism in the Delta is scheduled to open at the DCC Visitor's Center in February. Click here to see our Current Exhibits. This exhibit will help visitors understand the cultural and community role the old corner store played in the life of the rural south. Schedule a trip for your family or a field trip for your classroom.
To finish out this year, we welcome back the world famous Front Porch Blues Concert, which is part of the King Biscuit Blues Festival held in October. Please follow us on social media where all future events will be discussed, along with series and programs designed for those channels. Try to keep your feet from tapping from this entertainment.
