Pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Amy Bruzek brings unique expertise to team |
Dr. Amy Bruzek, the newest kid expert on Children’s Minnesota’s neurosurgery team, brings special expertise in peripheral nerve surgery to treat brachial plexus injury, as well as single-level and multi-level laminectomy selective dorsal rhizotomies for spasticity. Dr. Bruzek has trained with some of the world’s leading neurosurgeons on these highly specialized techniques and is eager to help expand the neurosurgery program at Children’s Minnesota with her services.
Brachial plexus injuries occur during birth in 1 to 2 births per 1,000. Other pediatric brachial plexus injuries are often due to sports injuries, falls or accidents. Selective dorsal rhizotomy is a spinal surgery that can permanently reduce leg spasticity in children with cerebral palsy.
Dr. Bruzek joined Children’s Minnesota in August 2023. Read more about her background and services here.

Mental health day program expands to kids ages 6 and older in Roseville |
Kids as young as six years old can now receive treatment at the partial hospitalization program (PHP) at Children’s Minnesota Mental Health Specialty Clinic in Roseville. The PHP provides structured, outpatient therapy for children and teens struggling with emotional and behavioral concerns in lieu of in-patient hospitalization, or as a step down in care for kids who have been in a 24-hour treatment program.
| |
Therapy strategies differ for teens, adolescents, and younger kids and the Roseville PHP offers services and facilities that meet the needs of kids in each age group it serves, including sensory tools, play therapy and the on-site gym that allow providers to work and connect with the younger patients.
The Roseville location in the east Twin Cities metro area opened in January 2023; the program expanded care to treat kids ages 6-18 in January 2024. Read more about the partial hospitalization program expansion here.
