Senior Spotlight – We're thrilled to once again bring you Senior Spotlights! To kick us off, meet Keylee Alas, salutatorian for the Franklin Military Academy Class of 2024, and member of my Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. In the fall, Keylee will attend Virginia Commonwealth University where she will pursue a degree in nursing. When asked to leave one piece of advice for the incoming senior class she shares: "Do everything, even when you’re scared, and live your life to the fullest...YOLO."

Shout-Outs – Please help us continue to inspire and uplift the RPS community by submitting shout-outs to shoutouts@rvaschools.net. Entries can be submitted in Spanish or English!
- Shout-out to Principal Kenya Massenburg and her team at Richmond Community High School for fostering such a welcoming and impressive culture at their school for prospective families! I learned yesterday that a dear friend's child (who previously had their heart set on Maggie Walker) had gotten a spot at Community for next year and was now excited about going there! This was in large part due to Principal Massenburg's warm and enthusiastic welcome during the open house alongside the very impressive stats she shared with prospective families (100% graduation + college acceptance rates, along with the millions earned in scholarships). Kudos to you and your team!
- I want to send a huge shout-out to Ms. Marchetti from Maymont Preschool! She is an absolutely amazing teacher, and I would not be the educator I am today had she not been my mentor. I am so grateful for her and for all of the positive educators I have had the pleasure of meeting since beginning my time with RPS!
- I would like to give a shout-out to Ms. Mariana Croes, 5th grade teacher at Cardinal Elementary School. Ms. Croes is an amazing teacher who is dedicated to doing her best every day. She takes time and effort to create wonderful, meaningful lessons that help her students be successful. She is kindhearted, helpful, and generous. Ms. Croes is always seeking to do better in whatever subject she is teaching so she can continue to improve for years to come. Thank you for everything you did this year – we are lucky to have you!
- I would like to give a big shout-out to Amanda Dailey, intensive support mentor/teacher, and Amanda Steeley, BCBA! They jumped in to support the intensive support class at Chimborazo on field day and helped to make the day memorable and enjoyable for our students. It's so evident how much they care about both the students and the staff!
- I would like to shout-out the following individuals at MLK Preschool: Crystal Hartsfield, Keisha Shelton, Sarah Daniel, and Audrey Townes. I had a family take a tour of MLK Preschool, and the support and love that these individuals gave this family was phenomenal. The entire atmosphere there is acceptance, love and support, and I am so appreciative of them all.
- I am so thrilled to give a huge shout-out to our wonderful speech-language pathology and audiology team! The Exceptional Education department is proud of the tireless work of our speech-language pathologists, and want to acknowledge and celebrate our team members, as May is National Speech-Language and Hearing Month!
