League Positions on Education
Plan to join League members and guests at this Hot Topic session when League President Debby Gould will discuss local and state program priorities and the League’s position on a number of education issues. Debby also serves on the LWVTN Action Committee and will provide a brief overview of bills to watch in the 109th General Assembly Session.
The LWVN believes that a quality public education system is an essential element for maintaining a strong and viable democracy. We believe in educational policies that raise levels of student achievement and address the needs of diverse student populations. We also know that in a democracy, public education serves many purposes. Regardless of the school setting, a quality education that supports high levels of academic achievement should be the primary goal for public investment of educational dollars. Just as importantly, in our increasingly diverse society, public schools provide an important locus for building community across differences. Promoting diversity in student populations of all public schools continues to be an important goal.
