Each year, SMPA offers exclusive prizes, scholarships and other special opportunities that support students as they pursue their academic and professional goals.
Applications open tomorrow for the many spring scholarships and prizes as well as the SMPA Career Action Network Internship Fund for rising seniors and graduate students pursuing summer internship experiences.
Last year, over $150,000 was awarded to students. All SMPA students should apply!

Ron Chernow, historian and host of the 2019 White House Correspondents’ Dinner will take us on his journey from writing the Alexander Hamilton biography to inspiring Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical, “Hamilton.”

Veteran White House correspondent and former SMPA Terker Distinguished Fellow April Ryan's return to campus was postponed due to the rescheduled State of the Union Address.

Each year, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards are full of extraordinary work from student journalists who report on issues reflecting Robert Kennedy's passions, including human rights, social justice and the power of individual action.

ProPublica will sponsor need-based scholarships for students to attend an eligible journalism conference in 2019. Students from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Students are invited to showcase their work and compete for prize money at the 24th annual GW Research Days. The event features poster presentations and keynote speakers that highlight the breadth of research and discovery being done at GW.

Want to experience the life of a foreign correspondent? Register for a two-week TOL Education course in Prague, Czech Republic, this July where you will learn tips of the trade directly from working correspondents and pursue your story.

$5,000 GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR GREEK-AMERICAN STUDENTS
Students who are of Greek-American heritage may apply for annual scholarships in memory of Peter Agris, the late founder and publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle.

PLANET FORWARD STORYFEST COMPETITION
Planet Forward's annual competition recognizes compelling, student-told stories that illuminate environmental issues and solutions. The grand prize trip is a 10-day storytelling voyage through the Galápagos Islands.

JMC SPECIAL HONORS APPLICATION NOW AVAILABLE
To apply for Journalism and Mass Communication honors, graduating seniors must have a minimum 3.7 GPA and a portfolio of published work. A short letter to faculty should outline applicable achievements and career goals.

Annarose "AJ" Jacob, B.A. '16, recently joined the National Women's Law Center as the manager of philanthropic engagement. Previously she was the digital development officer at the United Nations Foundation and a digital strategist at Mothership Strategies. As a student, AJ held internships at the ACLU, the Office of Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and Skadden Arps.
