See you tomorrow for The Trail They Blazed exhibit opening reception!
Please join us on Thursday, January 22nd at 5:00 P.M. for the opening of a powerful new exhibit in Loyola’s Monroe Library. The Trail They Blazed, created by the Historic New Orleans Collection, presents first-hand accounts of the tremendous and often dangerous efforts to transform Louisiana from a Jim Crow stronghold into a more equitable place during the civil rights movement. Through archival photographs and oral history excerpts, the exhibit immerses viewers in the daily realities and extraordinary courage of the era.
Monroe Library’s Special Collections & Archives has also developed a complementary exhibit, Leading Toward Justice: Loyola, New Orleans, and the Struggle for Civil Rights, that explores the history of the civil rights movement on our own campus—highlighting student activism, faculty leadership, and key moments in Loyola’s pursuit of racial justice. Together, these two installations connect statewide civil rights history with the university’s lived story.
Our welcome event and conversation with Dr. Ronnie Moore begins at 5:00 P.M. on the 1st floor of the Monroe Library, followed by a reception from 6:00–7:00 P.M. There will be food and refreshments!
