Rallying the Forces for Good Jobs in East Tennessee
When she heard about the funding opportunity offered by the American Rescue Plan Good Jobs Challenge, Sociology Professor  and Department Head Stephanie Bohon immediately recognized the “opportunity to do a lot of good for many people.” Along with Sociology Professor Jon Shefner, Bohon embarked upon a $21.9 million proposal development effort that would bring together 27 UT faculty and staff, 14 educational and training institutions, 17 industry partners, 13 community organizations, 10 economic development partners, four governmental entities, and two labor organizations.

Sergey Gavrilets, UT's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
The William T. Grant Foundation has named Deadric Williams, an assistant professor of sociology, one of five members of its newest class of Grant Scholars. The program supports the professional development of promising researchers in the social, behavioral, and health sciences who have received their terminal degrees within the past seven years.

Aris Clemons, assistant professor in the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, has been named a 2022 ACLS fellow for her work that examines educational biases that result from the expression of racial identity in marginalized students.

John Schwartz, professor in the Tickle College of Engineering, is working with municipal separate storm sewer systems across Tennessee to establish a report card to assess the effectiveness of stormwater management programs.

Hilary Havens, associate professor of English, has received a grant from NEH for The Maria Edgeworth Letters Project. The project is a collaborative digital edition of letters written by Maria Edgeworth, an Anglo-Irish author writing in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

A team of engineering students and faculty have created their own innovative flexible learning environment within the university’s new Zeanah Engineering Complex. The overarching idea was to create a welcoming space that encourages learning and collaboration.
