Checklist Items and Updates
| |
Transfer to NYU from another US university? All transfer students must obtain a new I-20 by Tuesday, September 19 in order to maintain F-1 status. Make sure you have completed all steps in our transfer checklist.
Are you registered as a full-time student?
The US government’s COVID-19 guidance has ended with the 2022-2023 academic year. Current US immigration regulations now only allow only 1 online course or up to 3 credits of online coursework to count toward their full-time enrollment.
Undergraduate Students:
Graduate Students:
Check with your department on what they consider full-time enrollment to be. If for any reason you won't be registered full time, you must have OGS approval to be registered for a reduced course load.
Have you updated your US address and phone number in Albert?
All students must have an up-to-date US residential address and phone number in their NYU records. If we don't receive this information, you risk losing legal status in the US. See instructions on how to update your US address and phone number.
Get your I-94 record with your latest travel updates
If you are a continuing student who traveled outside the US during the summer and have just returned, get your most recent I-94 record and be sure to print it out. If there is missing or incorrect information, please follow our instructions on how to correct your I-94 section on our web page.
Not able to enter the US by the start date listed on your I-20 or DS-2019?
Please remember that if you plan to arrive in the United States after the program start date as indicated on your current I-20 or DS-2019 or defer to a later session start date, we must change the start date listed on your document and send you an updated I-20 or DS-2019. Submit your US entry plan information so that we can work with you to get an updated I-20 or DS-2019 from our office.
Going into your final semester?
Make sure you are aware of your work options after you graduate! If you’re a student in F-1 status, learn more about and apply for Post-Completion OPT by mid-September! If you’re a student in J-1 status, learn more about and apply for Academic Training!
Have you worked on campus? Update Your Record with Your Social Security Number
For Student Employees, including Employees covered by Local 2110 (including but not limited to Graduate Employee Adjuncts), if you recently received your SSN or if you haven’t reported it to NYU yet, you must update your record. Please use this form from the Office of the Registrar to update your student record in NYU's Albert, Student Information System (SIS). Deliver the completed form and bring your SIGNED SSN card in person to the StudentLink Office at 383 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003 or 5 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY 11201. Never send your SSN over email.
