Diverse experiences"The diversity of hands-on experiences and relationships I built while working with GVSU Recreation were, without a doubt, what got me in the door for my first career position. What I remember most is the people, hands-down. My advice to student staff now would be to immerse yourself in the recreation lifestyle; not just the job. Embracing the community and your role within it can lead to some pretty great life moments." - Grant Carrigan

Career preparation"My experience at the Climbing Center definitely prepared me for the position I'm in now! That job was my first time managing other workers. I have had many management roles in my career and often think back to some of my first employees. My advice would be to never settle or underestimate yourself! Pay attention to the people you interact with, both customers and teammates. There are lessons to be learned around you every day." - Marie Schneider
