Welcome to our first edition of the lede, SCPA's brand new newsletter for collegiate journalists! We'll email you every other Friday a round up of items we think may interest you including info about upcoming programs and resources to help you better serve your campus. Please reach out to let us know the content or topics you'd like to see featured, and send us items to include so we can showcase the outstanding work done by the Palmetto State's collegiate journalists! Also, please share this with your staff and encourage them to subscribe!
Collegiate Contest entry platform and rules go live today
The 2022 Collegiate Contest rules and digital entry platform will go live later today!
The site will accept entries until Friday, Dec. 2.
All editors and advisers will receive an email with log-in credentials for the site and a copy of the rules. Reporters, photographers, designers and other staffers should get the log-in credentials from their editor or adviser.
We'll host a brief Zoom session on Oct. 20 from 2-2:30 p.m. where we'll share an overview of the rules, walk you through a quick demo on how to enter and answer your questions. Let us know if you’d like to attend!
Are you interested in digital collaboration?
At a recent SCPA Collegiate Member Orientation, a couple great ideas were shared on how collegiate members can work together throughout the year, but we need your input before moving forward. Please let us know your thoughts on the following by filling out a brief survey:
- Should SCPA host a monthly virtual Zoom huddle for collegiate editors to get together for informal discussion and idea sharing?
- Should we create a digital platform for collegiate members to collaborate, share and get help (perhaps over Slack, Discord or Google Groups)?
SCPA Diversity Committee to meet Nov. 10; volunteers sought
Diverse voices, backgrounds and experiences make our member news organizations and local news coverage stronger. The next meeting of SCPA's Diversity Committee is Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. via Zoom. Collegiate members are invited to participate. If you’d like to serve on this committee or offer suggestions, please reach out.
Make sure we have your advertising info correct
Thanks to the several SCPA collegiate members who responded last month when DAODAS was trying to place ads in your newspapers! We loved being able to help spread their important safety message and drive some revenue to your newspaper. If your organization accepts paid print and/or digital advertising, please make sure to send us your rate card or email us the following information:
- for print products: frequency, specs, rates and deadlines
- for digital products: available sizes and rates
- contact info for who on staff handles ad placement (name, email and phone)
