We started our rainbow theme this week, so our classroom is quite colorful!
During circle time, we each placed a color paddle on the overhead projector and noted its color. On Thursday, we built a rainbow with our wooden arch blocks. (See videos in photo album.)
At the art table, we explored rainbow colors by creating a collage on Tuesday and mixing primary colors on Thursday (using matching colored spools).
We've been working hard on strengthening our fine motor skills by using tweezers, garlic and citrus presses with playdough, squeezing clothespins on a wire rack, scooping and pouring rice, transferring pretend food from bowl to bowl, picking up colored cubes using salad tongs, and holding short rainbow crayons. (Using shorter tools naturally promotes a tripod grasp).
We will have fun with more rainbow ideas until spring break, and we will add some St. Patrick's Day activities, too!

We loved starting the week with chapel time and seeing so many of our wonderful families. It's always such a special way to begin our week together!
πThis week was all about rainbows in our classroom! Our class enjoyed exploring all the colorful activities and learning through lots of hands-on play.
In art, we cut colored construction paper, sorted the pieces by color, and glued them onto a large rainbow made on butcher paper. This activity strengthened fine motor skills while also practicing color recognition and sorting. The children also created their own rainbows using a variety of colorful materials, encouraging creativity and sensory exploration. We even made a fun rainbow ceiling decoration that brightened up our classroom!
We also introduced the letter/sound U this week. The children practiced recognizing the letter, learning its sound, and tracing it, helping build early literacy and pre-writing skills. In our third small group, the children used large push pins to poke a shamrock shape on cardstock. This activity continues to strengthen the muscles in our hands, improving our pencil grip.
It was a colorful, creative week filled with learning and fun! Have a great weekend! π

We had a busy week in Pre-K, celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday during our mini Spirit Week and Read Across America, while beginning our Author Study. The children enjoyed looking at books, pretending to be librarians, and even checking out books in our dramatic play library.
For The Cat in the Hat, students practiced patterning while making their own Dr. Seuss hats and worked on fine motor skills with tearing and cutting. We also celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday during snack time, which everyone enjoyed.
On Fox in Socks Day, the children became sock designers at the art table and made their own unique socks. After using socks to measure our bodies, we had fun dancing along to Fox Sox in a Box by Katie Dwyer.
Put Me in the Zoo was a fun day of process art. The children created Lorax Truffula Trees and spotted leopards for our hallway display. They also joined in movement activities to the song "Let's Go to the Zoo" by Music and Fun.
For The Dr. Seuss Sleep Book, we wore pajamas and played a "yawn game," where, just like in the book, one small yawn spreads across the whole circle. The children shared and compared their bedtime routines and finished circle time by singing Are You Sleeping? (Frère Jacques).
During small groups, we focused on rhyming in reading using natural language from Dr. Seuss books, and we will continue working on this skill next week. We also practiced the letter formation of V and its sound, and the number 10. Using Unifix cubes, the children measured Dr. Seuss characters, building early math and comparison skills.
Our week was full of reading and lots of hands-on learning, and we can't wait to continue our Author Study next week with the work of Eric Carle.
Have a great weekend!

Kinder Prep kicked off the first week of our Author Study theme by celebrating and honoring Dr. Seuss! We read so very many of his books! Students did an art project based on 5 of us books, and therefore created their own Dr. Seuss books. We mixed a little science into our art to paint "water" - ask your child about it! We ended the week by having Green Eggs and Ham, so be sure to ask if they liked it!
On Wednesday, instead of Gym time, we practiced Qi Gong in the HUB Room with the Wednesday morning Qi Gong group at Lake Grove Church. Qi Gong is a gentle practice that combines slow movements, breathing, and balance to help calm our bodies and minds.
We practiced the sounds and formation of the lowercase letters r and n. We also took the opportunity to practice our rhyming skills since many Dr. Seuss books lend themselves to this so nicely! As for numbers, we focused on 17 this week. The class even came up with their own measurement activity! Everyone's height was measured using Unifix cubes. Lots of counting! Our range was 60-93! It was very fun to watch them get so excited about this.
Enjoy your weekend!
