Polish American month commemorates the arrival of the first Polish settlers in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1608.

October was chosen to commemorate the first documented arrival of Filipinos in the continental United States. The Filipino American National Historical Society announced the 2026 theme as "Beyond the Margins: Centering Intersectional Filipino American Histories.”

German-American Heritage Month
|
German-American Heritage Month is observed annually throughout October in the United States to celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Americans of German descent. October 6 marks the arrival of 13 German families from Krefeld who landed in Philadelphia in 1683 and founded Germantown, Pennsylvania.
|
October is Global Diversity Month which celebrates cultural heritages, ethnicities, abilities, and backgrounds, as well as promoting workplace inclusion.
|
National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is observed every October to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities and promote inclusive workplace practices.

Safe Space Training

Safe Space training is an initiative to provide awareness training on LGBTQIA+ for Seton Hall faculty, staff and administrators.

Ironbound (Five Corners (Ferry St. & Wilson Ave.) will host an Italian Flag Raising Ceremony on Friday, October 23 at 5 p.m.
- Newark City Hall will host a second flag-raising ceremony on Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m.

- The 2nd Annual Filipino-American Music & Food Festival is Saturday, October 3 from 12 to 7 p.m. at G. Thomas DiDomenico Park (16th Street Park) in Bayonne, NJ

The Highlands Oktoberfest is on October 3 at Veterans Memorial Park in Highlands, NJ, featuring traditional German food, live polka music, and performances by the Bayern Verein Newark Dancers. Free admission.

The German-American Society of Trenton hosts their Quarterly Membership Meeting on October 8 from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
- The Ligaya Fest 2026 is Saturday, October 10 from 2 to 8 p.m. in Metuchen, NJ. A celebration of Fil-Am excellence featuring a pop-up market with Filipino American-owned vendors, food, art, and music.
- The Open Door Hispanic Heritage Month celebration happens Thursday October 22 at 7 p.m. in West New York, NJ. Free event.
