THE BOYS CAN EAT: Smoky Oak Taproom
It was a cold but pleasant Sunday afternoon on James Island. A relatively perfect setting for some really messy ribs, and a couple of beers. The Smoky Oak menu is not extensive, it does however have everything that you might want for a fun late afternoon repast. Ribs are the featured item, a half portion is quite generous, especially considering the size and quality of your two sides. All of the southern favorites are available. The portion of French fries is huge and your meal is served on a rectangular cookie sheet. The pulled pork sandwich is great as well as the Tacos. The children's menu is limited but the boneless chicken fingers were a hit with my grand children. This is very much a sports bar, and as such there is an overwhelming selection of beverages. The staff is quite knowledgeable about seasonal beers and wines. They can also direct you through the latest and greatest mixes and concoctions. If you're looking for a fun casual spot for a terrific meal, Smoky Oak might just be the place.
