Join us for the opening reception of CORE 12: Defining Ourselves

Saturday, September 10th
6:00 - 9:00 pm
during the East Village Art Walk in Long Beach

Throughout its 12 year history, the CORE: Defining Ourselves exhibition has been a barometer of Arts and Disability- we have committed to addressing the particular needs of artists with disabilities and to providing a spotlight for recognizing and promoting the creativity and hard work of painters, sculptors, musicians, writers and filmmakers worldwide who gather with us in this mandate.  We continue to respond to the ever-changing needs and identities of our artist base with programming that is both focused and fluid, in-depth and far-reaching.
This year will feature artists-both performing and visual through a three part event series including; a visual arts exhibition (9/10), an inclusive public art project (9/16) and an advocacy based panel discussion (10/28) about topics relevant to disability culture today.
CORE 12 is curated by Amy Mitchell, a dancer and musician based in Lynwood, CA

"It's time.  Time to hear what people with disabilities are saying.  Time to confront prejudices regarding the value of all people.  Time to realize that the exclusion of one endangers us all." -Dave Hingsburger

CORE 12: Defining Ourselves is presented by Able ARTS Work, formerly known as Arts & Services for Disabled, Inc.  The exhibition is funded in part by The National Endowment for the Arts, The Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Arts Council for Long Beach.
