| Young Kings in Action – Today, Martin Luther King, Jr. MS. inducted their first class of Young Kings in Action! Through this new program, adult male role models teach students about manhood, entrepreneurship, community building, and creative expression. RPS mentors, parents, caregivers, and community partners celebrated the inductees with speeches, songs, and a drum performance. Many thanks to St. Paul’s Baptist Church, one of the key sponsors of the program!

| RPS Live! – I'm so grateful to Vanessa Johnson, RPS Coordinator for the Center for Families in Transition (CFIT), and Tracey Hardney-Scott, Housing Chair of the VA State Conference of the NAACP, who joined me last night. We had a heavy but incredibly important discussion on housing instability and the ways RPS, the City, and community organizations are working to address the current crisis. As we discussed, stable housing is a critical education issue. Check out our conversation on the RPS Facebook page, and learn more on the CFIT website.

- Shout-out to Mrs. Anderson at Huguenot! Mrs. Anderson is kind and would give you the shirt off of her back. Thank you, Mrs. Anderson, for your hugs and encouragement all these years. You are a gem!
- On behalf of the Virginia Association Teachers of English (VATE), I would like to congratulate Mrs. Wanda Anderson of Huguenot High School. She is this year's Teacher of Excellence winner.
- Shout-out to the Elective/Encore Team at RVA! Each and every one of you is appreciated! Hoot Hoot!
- A huge thank you to Mr. Lyons Sanchezconcha and Ms. Michelle Litwa for their high school presentation for the 8th grade LIEP students at River City Middle School. And I'd also like to shout out Ms. Jane Winthrop for planning and coordinating this event for our students.
- I would also like to shout out the River City LIEP team. This team continues to amaze me. They never hesitate to step up and support each other, our students, and our school community. Ms. Ellwanger, Ms. McDevitt, Ms. Hurwitt, Mr. Park, Ms. Kim, Ms. Winthrop, and Ms. Davis, you all are simply incredible.
- I would like shout out to Mrs. Lamone Lewis, here at GW Carver. Ms. Lewis serves some of the children with the greatest needs. She seems to speak a language, unbeknownst to the rest of us, that is reciprocated with her students. They are engaged and learning...in their own special way! Mrs. Lewis is also very generous, sharing little treats with team members (always with a laugh or a smile).
- A huge shout out to Ms. LP (Lofton-Pickens) for advocating for the Richmond Virtual Academy community. I pray and hope that her hard work pays off. Love you, Ms. LP!
- Shout out to Brittany Jones, the SLP at Henry L. Marsh, III ES. Ms. Jones comes to work every day committed to supporting students with speech related skills. She goes above and beyond to focus on the whole child and has strong relationships with the students. We appreciate you, Ms. Jones! We hope you have a great speech and hearing month.
