Mark Your Calendars for the PDX People Customer Service Awards on Tuesday, July 25
To recognize airport employees who truly stand out as extraordinary, we hold the quarterly PDX People Customer Service Awards. Winners in each category – along with their managers and members of our volunteer working committee – are invited to attend the event in person while it's live-streamed on Facebook. To watch, head to the PDX Facebook page on Tuesday, July. 25, at noon.
As you know, the PDX People core values are to be knowledgeable, friendly and respectful. Guest speakers at this event will highlight each of these values: Abby Carey, concessions development manager with the Port of Portland, will share knowledge about the exciting new businesses opening at PDX in the future; Kathy Loter, program director of the Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams with DoveLewis Veterinary Hospital, will talk about how their program helps make PDX a friendly place; and Joyce DeMonnin, former communications manager with AARP and current AARP volunteer, will share communication strategies to demonstrate respectful service, particularly when communicating with older adults.
Missed the last virtual awards ceremony? View the event recording or read about past winners on the PDX People website. You can also nominate an employee who embodies the PDX People values and serves as a shining example of great customer service for next quarter – submit a nomination now.

What’s New with PDX Next: Ticket Lobby, D/E Bypass and July Forum
Ticket Lobby: Last week, overhead protection was installed above the American and Delta ticket counters, which included erecting towers, a deck, and lighting under the deck in preparation for demolition work overhead. This is a continuation of work above the D/E overflow queue area.
D/E BypassOn Friday, July 28, from midnight to 4 a.m., the D/E bypass will again close intermittently for concrete pours. There will be spotters in the bypass to close the area, and access will be maintained to the security exit doors. In urgent cases where an employee or passenger needs the bypass, work can be paused.
July ForumMark your calendars for Tuesday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. to get the inside scoop on construction at PDX. Countdown to May 2024: PDX's Main Terminal To-Do List
You know what that last stretch before a deadline is like: You check and recheck your to-do list, crossing off completed tasks. With each item you draw a line through, the finish point gets a little closer. For us at PDX, May 2024 is one of those big deadlines: It's the month when you'll finally be able to walk into the new main terminal and see what we've been building. Of course, May 2024 doesn't mean the end of the construction or the detours – we'll remove the last temporary walls by the end of 2025. However, we're well on our way to filling PDX with even more Pacific Northwest design, food, shops and art. From installing windows, floors and new art to improving the security flow, here are the seven biggest tasks on our to-do list.

PDX in Pictures
The Port of Portland Police make a difference every day, but it’s not every day that they truly make dreams come true.
Last week, Detective Pete Brenner, Officer Jack Dunteman and Officer Garland Porter teamed up with the Make a Wish Foundation to grant the wish of 12-year-old Zachery, who had always wanted to ride in a police car. As you can see in the pictures, Zachery truly enjoyed his adventure before flying out for treatment, and his family was deeply appreciative of the special effort.
On Instagram, a Make a Wish volunteer gave an additional shout out to the PDX People that helped make this possible: "Special thanks to Alaska Airlines, especially Kris Brugman and Cynthia, PDX's TSA, especially agent Tawan Bernkopf, and Police Officer Porter for taking time to thoroughly brief the family’s younger first timers."
