Beginning September 19: Chinatown - Rose Pak Station upper plaza restrooms will be open to the public Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., during Portsmouth Square construction.
- October: Crews are expected to begin sewer maintenance and replacement on Walter U. Lum Place. Work will require roadway trenching and a temporary street closure. Schedule details will be shared once confirmed.

Phase A partial tunnel closure remains in effect
|

Expect traffic delays during peak travel times. Drivers who want to avoid delays should consider using the local and regional detour routes established for the full closure.

Activities in September 2026 |
- Hazardous materials abatement continues inside the closed tunnel bore and building interior.
- Sept. 3: site logistics zone begins on Mason Street. Fencing will be installed along the Mason Street sidewalk, with a temporary pedestrian path maintained at all times.
- Sept. 4 to 5: PG&E gas shutoff work and roadway restoration are scheduled. Temporary parking restrictions are expected along the Broadway north tributary road.

Starting Sept. 8: site logistics zones begin on the Broadway tributary roads to support rooftop and façade demolition. Scaffolding and shrink wrap will be installed around the building. The parking lane will be converted to a traffic lane, with temporary parking restrictions expected.
- Sept. 11 to 14: Dragon artwork removal is expected.
- Begin rooftop demolition.

Utility investigation work on Mason Street and the south Broadway tributary.

Hazardous materials abatement is expected to finish in the closed tunnel bore and building interior.
- Sidewalk and roadway demolition and shoring installation will begin inside the closed tunnel bore.
- Structural demolition and window removal will continue inside the building.
- Precast façade panels will be removed from the east and west sides of the building.

Structural steel work for the building façade will begin.

Activities in September 2026 |
Crews will continue demolition, off-hauling and waterproofing removal inside Portsmouth Square. Work will also advance on lower-level grade beams, including layout, dowel installation, formwork setup, rebar placement and the installation of embeds and anchor bolts.
To support this work, the site fence along Walter U. Lum Place is expected to move out to the curb. The sidewalk may close during work hours and pedestrians will be redirected to an alternate route; a protected walkway will be provided after work hours. Crews also will work near the elevators and build a temporary ramp to maintain access, with one elevator remaining operational at all times.

Activities in October 2026 |
Sewer line maintenance and replacement work is expected to take place on Walter U. Lum Place. Crews will perform trenching in the roadway to access and replace the sewer line. A temporary road closure, traffic changes, construction noises and parking restrictions are expected near the work area. The west-side sidewalk will remain open and local businesses will remain accessible to pedestrians.
Work is expected to take up to four weeks once underway. Confirmed dates and work hours will be shared once finalized.
