Free Geek
Friends and Supporters,

2017 was a great year for Free Geek. With the help of our board members, donors, volunteers, interns, and staff we increased our production of refurbished devices for community giving and volunteer programs, taught a record-breaking number of free courses in our classroom, and recycled more e-waste than any previous year—all with a balanced budget.

Looking forward, Free Geek is extending its reach locally and nationally through strong partnerships with MetroEast Community Media, Thinkful, the Technology Association of Oregon, and many others. Our recent remodel has dramatically increased our ability to serve our community by creating new spaces for mobile devices, A/V equipment, and in-demand Apple products and laptops.

We have gained national recognition for our efforts to increase digital equity locally and have been working to contribute to the larger conversation, through speaking engagements and participation at the national level with the Alliance for Technology Refurbishing and Reuse (AFTRR) and the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA).

Today, I want to thank all of you—our community, friends, supporters, volunteers—for all you do for us and with us. The generous giving of your time, technology, and money powers our mission and enables us to do more and do it better. We are all excited for what 2018 holds!

In gratitude,

ITEMS OF TECHNOLOGY RETURNED TO THE COMMUNITY
Free Geek’s goal is to divert technology that would otherwise be recycled or thrown away, refurbish it, and give it back to our community at no or low cost. In this way, we hope to decrease the digital divide through our community programs and below-market prices in our Store.
