Dear Colleagues,
Georgia Tech’s strategic mission is to develop leaders who advance technology and improve the human condition. Our four big bets focus on amplifying Georgia Tech’s impact in Georgia, the nation, and the world. Our foundational priorities are critical to fuel our progress, overall success, and the impact of our strategic mission. These priorities strengthen the foundation we are building upon by fostering a culture focused on people, enrollment, processes, structures, and systems.
The Job Family & Career Paths initiative is an essential part of that endeavor.
Our strategy requires a career system with jobs and career pathways that drive our strategic mission, and our current system no longer meets our needs. Our staff employees need a framework to plan, navigate, and advance their careers at Tech. The new comprehensive career system will redefine how we approach, manage, and navigate professional careers at Tech. This is a multi-year journey, and our first milestone is Job Families implementation.
What we’ve accomplished
Over the past three months we have established four new job families – Finance & Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Research Administration – impacting more than 1,700 staff employees.
A majority of employees in roles within Wave 1 are moving from their current role to an equivalent role in the new job family. Some employees are currently in roles that require further review by their unit leadership before moving into a role into the new job family. Units are actively working to identify the appropriate solutions for these employees. Depending on the role, these employees will move into a new job family at different times. If your role has not moved into a new job family, your direct supervisor will provide regular updates to you throughout the job family implementation.
