Welcome back to RIT for the spring semester. We hope that you had a great break and enjoyed some time away for yourself.
Spring semester is the perfect time to start (or level up) your job search or shore up your summer plans.
|
Even if graduation or summer feels far away, the steps you take now can pay off in a big way later down the line. |
Small, consistent actions like these can turn into big career opportunities:
|
-
Build Your Experience: Look for internships, part-time jobs, research roles, volunteer opportunities or school related activities to help build up your resume. Experience—even short-term or unpaid—helps you stand out.
-
Use Campus Resources: Visit RIT's Career Services (and schedule time with Eric Dixon) for resume reviews, mock interviews, and job boards. Attend RIT's spring career fair on February 25 and go to as many employer info sessions, even if you are just exploring.
- Strengthen Your Network: Connect with professors, advisors, alumni, classmates, friends who graduated, and family, and just get out and talk to people. Update your LinkedIn profile and start having conversations about career paths you might interested in. Over 80 percent of jobs are found through networking.
-
Develop In-Demand Skills: Use the semester to learn or develop technical, digital, or communication skills through classes, certifications, or online courses that employers might value.
-
Apply Early and Often: Most summer internships and entry-level roles are filled months in advance. Set weekly goals for applications and follow-ups. Setting aside a few moments daily or weekly to either search or apply will pay off down the line.
|
Start now, stay curious, and take advantage of everything RIT, COLA, and Career Services has to offer. Reach out if you have any questions or want support in creating a job search strategy this spring.
As a reminder, Career Coordinator Eric Dixon hosts drop-in hours every Thursday, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., in the COLA lounge (second floor Liberal Arts Hall).
Best wishes,
Brad Rosenbaum, Assistant Dean, Office of Student Services
Eric Dixon, Career Services Coordinator
