It was so fun seeing most of you at the Halloween costume parade on Wednesday!
This week, we finished our pumpkin theme with a color-mixing activity (yellow and red make orange). We also worked on squeezing glue bottles while adding orange pieces to our big cardboard pumpkin. Mr. Ian cut open a pumpkin so we could see what's inside, and our jack-o-lantern joined us during circle time. Speaking of circle time, we sang There's a Spider on the Floor, while holding pretend spiders. We then dropped them down the water spout. Ms. Casey read us one of her new pumpkin books, too! We worked on number recognition during circle time with a 1-5 pumpkin matching activity.
Next week, we start our fall theme with leaves and woodland animals!

What a fun and festive week we had celebrating Halloween! The highlight of our week was the Halloween Parade and Sing-Along — it was wonderful to see all our families and the children dressed in their amazing costumes. Thank you for joining in the fun!
In art, we got creative decorating our treat bags for the parade, painting pumpkins, and adding pumpkin seeds for a special touch. We also made spooky (and silly!) Halloween masks that everyone loved showing off. During small-group sessions, we worked on fine motor skills by making beaded spiders and practicing scissor cutting — both were big hits with the children!
Wishing everyone a Happy Halloween and a fantastic weekend!

We had a wonderful week in Pre-K!
Our spider theme wrapped up with lots of excitement. The children learned that spiders aren't insects. They have two body parts, eight legs, and spin sticky webs to catch food. We also talked about how spiders help keep bug populations down. This week, we swapped out our usual science table for a STEAM station. The children built webs using popsicle sticks, cups, and straws, then tested how many toy spiders each could hold. It was a great way to explore counting, problem-solving, and teamwork. We read Walter's Wonderful Web, Chicka Chicka Trick-a-Treat, The Very Busy Spider, Room on the Broom, and Pete the Cat and the Itsy Bitsy Spider. The children loved spotting shapes and singing along. In art, we made spiders with paper and craft materials. Each one was unique, and the children enjoyed adding their own touches. We even folded paper to make accordion-style legs that wiggled and bounced. During Handwriting Without Tears, we focused on the letter/sound I and reviewed numbers 1-3. Pencil grip is coming along nicely, and many children are showing more control and confidence. It was such a treat to see all the creative costumes and share the Halloween spirit on Wednesday. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Next week, we'll begin our Thanksgiving unit with a focus on food, nutrition, and gratitude.

Kinder Prep had a busy Halloween week! We packed in several additional themes, including nocturnal animals and spiders. We focused our learning on bats and owls. We learned fun facts, and after making some pretty spectacular bats and owls, the class had a lot of fun experimenting with getting their bats to fly! We learned about many varieties of spiders and made our own using clay, which is terrific for building hand strength and fine motor skills. We combined science and art to make spider webs, along with more fine-motor practice as we pinched that salt and used droppers full of orange watercolor paint. Our letters/sounds this week were V and W, and our number was 7. It was fun to see all of you at our Costume Parade and Sing-along. Kinder Prep did a fantastic job of learning and singing all of our Halloween songs!! I hope everyone had a fun Halloween night, and stays warm and dry over the weekend!
