Dear Colleagues,
It's been an impactful summer for the MEMS community, as our mechanical engineering program has climbed the national ranks with the excellence of our faculty, alumni and growing body of researchers.
A prime example of our success can be seen in restor3d, a company developing personalized 3D-printed orthopedic implants spun out of the laboratory of MEMS Professor Ken Gall. Their recent funding successes coupled with an innovative collaboration with Voxel Innovations, another Duke spin-off company, is a prime example of how we're making a real impact on society.
Another innovation in MEMS is our blend of medical robotics and engineering with the help of our state-of-the-art SEAL Lab. This and other unique training capabilities helped our students to win FOUR of this year's NSF Graduate Research Fellowships. These highlights are emblematic of the department’s commitment to real-world impact as well as the power of engineering to address critical global challenges.
