"The proof is in the people” was the slogan when I went to Iona. It definitely rang true for me, as it led to me to my best friend. I started college knowing a handful of people from my high school, but was looking forward to making new friends. For me, it started with a pen. A group of students were sitting in what was then Doorley lounge, and when they left, I realized that one of the girls had left her pen. I contacted her that evening and that simple gesture blossomed into a lifelong friendship. It’s been almost 35 years since that day and our friendship has never waived. Through good times and bad we have been there for each other, and we have Iona to thank for it." - Lisa (Janniello) O'Connor '94
