Anti-Discrimination Policies and Procedures
October 12, 2021
Dear Tufts Community Members,
Tufts University prohibits all forms of discrimination and harassment on the basis of all protected categories found in our Non-Discrimination Policy. As part of its robust compliance program, the University's Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) maintains a number of anti-discrimination policies and procedures, including the University's Sexual Misconduct Policy and corresponding procedures for students (Sexual Misconduct Adjudication Process) and employees (Discrimination Complaint Guidelines). OEO also maintains a Title IX Policy and associated Title IX Sexual Misconduct Adjudication Process, SMAP-X, in compliance with the 2020 amended Title IX regulations. Sex and gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence in employment, as well as in any educational program or activity, are covered under these policies. This conduct is also prohibited by state and federal law including Title VII, M.G.L. c. 151B, Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and the recently enacted Massachusetts Act Relative to Sexual Violence on Higher Education Campuses ("2021 Campus Sexual Assault Law").
OEO is a central university office that provides the information, resources, and support to realize the University's desire for a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where community members can work, learn, and live. Additional OEO policies, procedures, and other information can be accessed at oeo.tufts.edu.
We regularly evaluate our University policies, including our non-discrimination and sexual misconduct policies and procedures, to ensure they are serving our community. We welcome your input and suggestions at any time. Please also remember that most University employees are required to report discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct, to OEO. As Title IX Coordinator for the University, I welcome you to direct questions or feedback to my attention at any time by email at jill.zellmer@tufts.edu or by telephone at 617-627-3298. You may also feel free to send anonymous feedback under the sexual misconduct tab via our Ethicspoint reporting tool.
Respectfully,
Jill A. Zellmer
Executive Director and Title IX Coordinator, Office of Equal Opportunity
