Spotlight on ... Job Searching While Employed
Many job seekers express concern that conducting a stealthy search for a new position will be challenging while they're still employed. We agree, and it's important to tread carefully. FAQ of the Month
What are some of the best ways to learn about companies that interest me?
Whether you're actively job searching or just looking to bookmark organizations for future reference, it's a good idea to go beyond googling and company websites. Here are 3 ideas:
  • Check them out on social media. Get a feel for organizational culture and values by following employers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and/or LinkedIn. You'll be able to assess what they look for in potential employees and how that matches with your interests and experience.
  • Read reviews. Search for the company on Glassdoor.com and find out what current/former employees have to say about them. Look for common themes in reviews, as opposed to relying heavily on a single positive (or negative) report.
  • Go straight to the source. Do you know anyone who works there? Check the Tufts Online Community and Tufts Career Networking Group on LinkedIn for fellow Jumbos who could share insights.
