SMPA SUMMER RUNDOWN


SMPA is excited to announce the first-ever Summer Rundown edition!
The Summer Rundown will go out every other Sunday and will include job and internship postings, announcements coming out of the school, and student and faculty spotlights.

THE EUROPEAN CLIMATE FOUNDATION (ECF) JOB POSTING


European Climate Foundation strategic communications team is looking to hire a strategic communications associate to work with the People and Politics team. This role will assist in developing program strategy, communications and manage outreach to partners and spokespeople, helping to build strategic communications capacity in the wider climate community. 

WHEN WE ALL VOTE (WWAV) INTERNSHIP
WWAV is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that is on a mission to increase participation in every election and close the race and age voting gap by changing the culture around voting, harnessing grassroots energy, and through strategic partnerships to reach every American
WWAV is looking for an intern to join their Civic Cities team to support efforts to close the race and age gap in voter participation. This is a paid position ($15/hour), beginning on August 17 and continuing through November 13, located in Washington, DC. 
PROJECT HOPE - HEALTH AFFAIRS INTERNSHIP
Health Affairs is seeking a Research & Strategy intern to carry out desk research and analysis on developing a brand advocate – or influencer – program. This is a temporary position to support the Director of Digital Strategy and Senior Director of Communications in implementing a multi-year initiative in broadening Health Affairs’ reach and impact by creating new types of content and increasing the ways it engages with its audience.

SMPA WELCOMES TWO NEW FACULTY MEMBERS
SMPA is thrilled to announce two new faculty members that will join the team this fall; Efrat Nechushtai and Jesse J. Holland! They both bring extensive knowledge that will help students gain the critical skills they need in journalism.  
Beginning this fall, Dr. Nechushtai will be bringing her experience as a professional journalist, working as an editor and staff writer for Haaretz, into the classroom by helping students understand the challenges they might face in the media today.
Mr. Holland is coming to SMPA as an award-winning journalist, author, and television personality. His years of experience in print and news media will be especially helpful to students as he teaches them to strive to be the best journalists they can be.

SMPA is very excited to welcome back Karen Finney and Steve Scully as the 2020-21 Terker Distinguished Fellows! With an important election year coming up and the uncertainty of COVID-19, we are looking forward to both Karen Finney and Steve Scully bringing their political communications and media backgrounds to many more events and student functions this coming academic year.

The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement and The Collaborative for Inclusive Excellence are proud to host a series of programs grounded in providing the GW community with space to process, work on healing, learn from one another, and work towards action against hate and oppression. Programs are open to all members of the GW community and they are working to develop a platform with additional educational resources to engage in readings, videos, webinars, and other upcoming virtual opportunities.

Jason Osder film Let the Fire Burn was listed on the top of Vulture's list of films about police brutality. The film was also listed in the Rolling Stones, CBC, Slate, and Maysles Online screening

Peter Loge wrote a piece that was posted in the National Communication Association in their Communication Currents series titled "Pete Buttigieg’s Ethical Rhetoric of Civil Religion".
