As anyone who works at a foundation will tell you, getting candid feedback can be difficult. Of course, I understand why. For the most part, people feel like they should be nice to us, especially if they are grantees. But that “Nashville nice” makes it harder to know how we can do better. We receive occasional feedback from our donors, but as CFMT approached a new strategic plan, we knew that we needed to know much more than we do about how to be a better partner.
For that reason, CFMT hired the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) to lead our first-ever Donor Perception Survey to get feedback from you—our donors. We wanted to better understand what you valued about your partnership with CFMT, what we were doing well, and where we could improve. Over the past decade, CEP has conducted this same study from more than 10,000 donors representing 90 community foundations. Part of this study included benchmarking our findings against a cohort of 16 similar-sized community foundations* from around the country.

| CFMT Welcomes Six New Members to the Board Of Directors

Recently, CFMT's board members met for an afternoon deep dive into the work of CFMT and the exciting path forward in community-focused philanthropy and welcomed a new board class into the next era of the community's foundation.
Each board member, both returning and new, brought a unique viewpoint, professional expertise, and calm confidence through our doors. Layer that with their love of this community, and we find ourselves with a dream team!

Immediate Impact Opportunity
|
For far too long, Black-led organizations have faced an unfair gap in funding and, in turn, the sustainability to continue to support the necessary hands-on services they were providing to ensure those safe spaces for their neighbors.
In response to the worldwide civil unrest and demand for racial justice in 2020, the Metro Nashville Office of Community Safety launched The Village, a program built to reinforce organizations making a difference in the communities they served, communities where residents trusted the services that were being offered.
The Village is an intentionally curated incubation space providing a supportive environment for Black nonprofit leaders and organizations primarily servicing marginalized communities to upskill and increase capacity, access, and resources.
Today, this public-private partnership exists between the Metro Nashville Public Health Department and CFMT, and the work of The Village continues to support the grassroots organizations standing in the gaps, serving the most vulnerable, the most marginalized, and the most overlooked in our communities.
As we move out of February and into the remaining months of the year, we are reminded of the importance of amplifying Black history as American history year-round. In honor of this lens, let us lean into the opportunity of making a financial contribution to support our ongoing commitment to providing Black leaders with the tools necessary to keep doing the vital work needed for thriving communities.
Together, we can make a huge impact on the growth and sustainability of The Village’s nonprofit partners and community-led organizations dedicated to supporting their neighbors at the grassroots level.

Lauren Daigle Discount for Nonprofits

As many of you know, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee is going into a 6th year collaboration with music icon Lauren Daigle and her charitable initiative with us, The Price Fund. Over these past six years, Lauren has given away grants to loving arts and music programs right here in Middle Tennessee as well as across the country. She is a force for good like no other!

During the week of April 22nd, Tennessee Nonprofit Network will close for a few days to observe their fourth annual Nonprofit Day(s) of Rest. Nonprofit Day(s) of Rest are meant to give nonprofit employees time to unwind, disconnect, and restore. TNN began Nonprofit Day(s) of Rest in response to the struggles many nonprofit staff were experiencing at the beginning of the pandemic, but they realized that this practice needed to continue. More than 50 organizations have joined them each year to observe the Nonprofit Day(s) of Rest. With a workforce shortage crisis and leadership crisis in full swing, now is the time to provide additional time off and other benefits to your staff.
There is no one specific way to observe Nonprofit Day(s) of Rest. Organizations have:
Offered the full week off to their staffs
Closed for a day or two
Took half days during the week of Nonprofit Day(s) of Rest
Rotated days off so that all employees could have a few days off while still continuing services through the week for their clients
Offered special self-care offerings like a yoga seminar, lunch provided, etc.
Join TNN in observing a Nonprofit Day(s) of Rest in whatever way your organization is able. Whether it is the full week or just a half day, please give yourself and your staff time to pause.
