Jennifer Hanson
Jennifer Hanson Shows Up for PDX People
During this year's snowstorm, Portland Coffee Roasters' Jennifer Hanson (she/her) made sure her fellow airport workers – along with PDX travelers – were able to get much needed coffee and snacks. This nomination came from a PDX employee at Timberline Lodge:
"Jennifer showed up the day after the initial snowstorm and ran the place single-handed. After a sleepless night in our store’s stock room, hot tea and yogurt were very much appreciated by our employees. Jennifer was upbeat and friendly on a very trying day.
I thanked her in person the following day and she said she primarily came in so her fellow airport employees could get coffee. She even offered to drop off drinks to our store. Jennifer went above and beyond."

What's New with PDX Next: South Bypass and Ticket Lobby Work
South Bypass: Expect work in the south bypass on May 15-17 from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Teams will work to level off some flooring sections and you may see barriers blocking off work areas, hear noise from the equipment and smell odors from the carpet adhering process.
North Ticket Lobby: To get ready for PDX’s new main terminal, expect a wall going up in the former Portland Coffee Roasters area soon; seating will be slightly reduced and moved to accommodate the work area.
From now until Tuesday, May 30, during Monday through Thursday daytime work hours, you’ll see scissor lifts in the north-central ticket lobby while crews work on overhead ducts. As they move around, this may impact some ticket counter queue areas.

Food Donation Program Returns to PDX
Starting Monday, May 22, the PDX food donation program in partnership with Urban Gleaners returns. If you work at an airport restaurant or shop that offers prepackaged food, you can join the effort to help feed the Portland area
Before being discontinued in 2020 due to the pandemic, the program helped increase the airport's sustainability by decreasing food waste. But what's most important is that it gave back to the community we serve.
When the program restarts, Urban Gleaners will visit PDX twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays to retrieve donated food from the locked donation fridges. They'll then distribute the donations to local nonprofits, food kitchens and low-income schools. Learn more about the program and how to join.

Don't Lose Your Cool, Stay Safe in Hot Weather
Summer weather has arrived in the Portland area and temperatures are predicted to be near 90 degrees this week.
Be protected: Dress for hot conditions in loose-fitting, light-colored clothes; drink water every 15 minutes to stay hydrated; and take frequent breaks in shady, cool or air-conditioned areas.
Stay hydrated: Take a moment to fill up your water bottle before you get to work and stay cool, safe and quenched during your workday. For your convenience, we will place a water station at the employee shuttle drop-off spot.
Know your risks: Those working in the hot weather may be at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. If you see a coworker who is experiencing headaches, dizziness and nausea (heat exhaustion) or dry, hot skin, confusion and convulsions (heat stroke), act quickly and get help.
For more ways to protect yourself in hot weather, check out this tip sheet. In case of emergency at PDX, call 503-460-4000. For non-emergencies, call 503-460-4747.
