Study Abroad in Santiago de Cuba!

In December 2017, Dr. Jackson and Dr. Ferbel-Azcarate and his family traveled to Santiago de Cuba to work on setting up a study abroad program through PSU's Black Studies Department. We will be offering the trip in December 2019. We will keep you posted! 
We are also working on study programs to Ghana, South Africa, and New York City

Oregon Black Political Convention

On April 6-8, 2018, the 21st Oregon Black Political Convention (OBPC) will be held at the Crowne Plaza Portland Downtown Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.  Since 1978, twenty Oregon Black Political Conventions have been hosted by the Political Action Committee of the Oregon Assembly for Black Affairs (OABA). And, the 2018 OBPC  will be the 21st Convention.  Attached is the Theme History of the Oregon Black Political Convention.

Internship Opportunities

Have you thought about doing an intership?  Internships can be an important part of connecting you to your career goals! See youur Black Studies professor or the Department Chair on how to sign up for an internship for credit!
Paid internship opportunities are for students and/or individuals with a keen interest in learning the legislative process in our nation’s capital, who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it. 

Senator Merkley’s Otto and Verdell Rutherford Congressional Internship and Senator Wyden’s Creating Opportunity Internship (COIN) offer approximately $5,000 to each individual to support those who are passionate about public service and want to experience Capitol Hill and policymaking firsthand.  There are four paid positions, two in each office, for the 2018 summer program.Fall internships are possible, with one spot available in each office for the Rutherford and COIN positions. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2018.
