RD Highlight: Building Engagement and Diversity
As a graduate student in physics, Nadia Fomin was the only woman in a class of 20, so she knows what it is like to feel isolated in a research environment. Fomin’s experience as a student inspired her to partner with ORNL on a new fellowship program designed to encourage students from diverse backgrounds to consider a career in nuclear physics.

Three Students Awarded Goldwater Scholarships

Three UT Knoxville students have been named 2021–22 Goldwater Scholars, giving UT a shared first place in the SEC for the award. The most prestigious undergraduate STEM scholarships in the United States, Goldwater Scholarships are awarded to college sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering.

Knoxville Open trophy
Training the next-generation machine tool workforce is continuing this summer through six in-person boot camps. The program is part of America’s Cutting Edge, a highly successful CNC machining training program designed to teach essential machining skills and address the nation’s growing manufacturing workforce gap.

UT recently announced the addition of an online Master of Science degree program in computer science. The new program represents the latest chapter in the university’s collaboration with Noodle, the country’s fastest-growing online learning network.

ORE plans to adapt the limited submissions process for specific recurring funding opportunities in order to improve outcomes for proposal submissions. The selected opportunities are considered to have strategic significance to the institution in the execution of its mission.
