Spring Clean-Up Season

Punxsutawney Phil told us that spring is right around the corner and WE ARE READY FOR IT! Are you ready to get your hands dirty and join us for a fun event this spring?
It is hard not to notice all the trash and debris that have piled up along the roadways over the winter months. Together we are going to clean it up and keep our neighborhoods looking beautiful. We already have dozens of events planned but we need your help!
Organizers: Don't forget to register your event as an official Great American Clean-Up. We can then provide supplies, logistical support, and promotion for extra volunteers.

Low Impact Event Tips

Are you looking for ways to make your event more sustainable? Consider low-impact reusable options rather than disposable or throw away plates, cups, utensils, or napkins! If you can’t get away from disposables items consider ones made from renewable resources like plants.

We actively strive to be zero waste at all of our events. We also support local businesses and organizations to carry out their own low-impact, sustainable events by providing assistance with the compostable collection.

Staff Spotlight:

Introducing:

Rachel Cranmer

We are excited to welcome our new Environmental Education Program Coordinator to the team!
Where are you from originally? How’d you end up in Cincinnati?
I’m from Lebanon, Ohio north of Cincinnati. I went to the University of Cincinnati for my undergraduate degree but left after college to travel. I eventually returned to Cincinnati where I worked at the Cincinnati Zoo and got my masters degree from Miami University before finding myself here, at KCB!
Where’s your favorite place to eat in Cincinnati?
I love the Sleepy Bee Cafe. It has a great vibe, healthy food, and is an excellent place to grab coffee or mimosas with friends. Plus, that bee logo is adorable!
What’s a fun fact about yourself?
I once spent a weekend taking a venomous snake handling class with friends when I lived abroad. I learned to use snake hooks to carefully pick up Cobras and a particularly spicy Puff Adder. It was my chance to finally live up to my childhood hero, Steve Erwin. Crikey!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I adore traveling, especially volunteering or taking courses in the country I am visiting. It leads to a more authentic travel experience and allows you to connect with the community in a way you won't get in the tourist traps. I'm also creative, enjoy doing yard work, and spending time with my nieces and nephews.

What’s your favorite part about working here?
I've only been part of the KCB family for a short while but it's clear that I am surrounded by like-minded, passionate people who care as deeply as I do about our planet and local community. I'm happy to be teaching about the topics that I am passionate about and spreading the good, green love every day while continuing to explore this beautiful city!
The Staff Spotlight is an exciting new series where we sit down with our staff members so you can learn more about our team.
