2020 UC National Laboratory Fees Research Program Funding Opportunity

UC Research Initiatives is pleased to announce the release of the 2020 Request for Proposals for the UC National Laboratory Fees Research Program. This year’s competition offers two distinct funding opportunities:

The UC Multicampus-National Laboratory Collaborative Research and Training (UC-NL CRT) award; and
The UC-National Laboratory In-Residence Graduate Fellowship

UC-NL CRT awards support collaborations consisting of at least three UC campuses and either Los Alamos or Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory conducting research in one of three targeted areas. The topic areas for UC-NL CRT include:

Accelerator research
Quantum information science
Wildfire-related research

Letters of Intent are due May 30, 2019, 12:00 PM Pacific Time.

CNSI Challenge Grants, Spring 2019

The CNSI management team has announced the next round of the CNSI Challenge Grants. These grants provide funding to support the initiation of new large-scale and high-impact collaborations by UCSB faculty. These high-risk Challenge Grants are meant to:

Help UCSB faculty initiate and strengthen partnerships with academia and industry
Increase flexibility and responsiveness to new research directions and funding opportunities
Develop the next generation of scientific leaders at UCSB
Incubate large multi-PI centers and programs within CNSI

UC Transportation Research RFP

The University of California Institute of Transportation Studies (UC ITS) is dedicated to supporting transportation research from across the UC system. Each year UC researchers from campuses that do not host an ITS branch are invited to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP) to support research that will assist the Golden State in maximizing the economic, environmental, and social benefits of transportation investments. This RFP supports transportation research at the following UC campuses: Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco.

Proposals are due Monday, May 27, 2019 11:59 pm PDT.

UC Cannabis Research Workshop

In partnership with colleagues at UCI, the UC Office of the President invites you to the UC Cannabis Research Workshop on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 10 am - 4 pm at the Irvine campus. The UC Cannabis Research Workshop is a one-day successor meeting to the March 2018 workshop entitled, “Policy and Legal Issues Related to Cannabis Research,” that was held at the Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) office in Davis. We would welcome your participation in this year’s workshop as we discuss how UC might best navigate the evolving cannabis research landscape.

This workshop will focus on opportunities for research collaborations within the UC system, as well as the policy, legal, administrative, and compliance issues associated with cannabis-related research. The objectives of this workshop are to:

Explore ways to advance research collaborations and synergistic research on a range of relevant topics,
Develop a common understanding of the current regulatory framework for conducting cannabis-related research, and
Formulate next steps for facilitating new cannabis-related research.

Invitees for this workshop include UC Vice Chancellors for Research, researchers, and specialists from research compliance, campus counsel, controlled substances program administrators, sponsored programs, government relations, and research policy, among others. Please register by Friday, April 26, 2018 on this RSVP form, which you may use to submit questions you would like to propose for discussion at the event.

Please note that this event accommodates 120 people, and there are about 25 spots left as of April 22.
