Hello 4-H families!
The Arizona 4-H Plant Science Contest will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, in the Hall of Champions at the Pima County Fairgrounds at 11300 S. Houghton Road just outside of Tucson! This is a great time to test your knowledge of common trees, flowers, fruits, and vegetables in a nice, air-conditioned hall.
This event is open to ALL registered AZ 4-H youth and their families at no charge - you don't have to know the difference between a beet and a bean, we'll teach you! We’ll have categories for clover buds (5-8), junior (9-11), intermediate (12-13), senior (14-18), and adult (19 and up).
The contest has 3 sections: a written test covering basic horticultural knowledge, 3 judging classes, and samples of common trees, flowers, fruits, and vegetables to identify.
This will be the state qualifier for the National Junior Horticultural Convention this fall, held October 7-10 in Baltimore, MD. See njha.org for more information on the convention. The top 4 senior youth will qualify to be on the 2022 Arizona Plant Science Team.
No registration is necessary – just show up!
The contest runs from 10:00-2:00 with winners announced after grading and tabulating results. Lunch is available on the fairgrounds or from nearby restaurants.
