Welcome to the October edition of the Warrior Family Association e-newsletter. We are so pleased that our students have been able to benefit from Indiana Tech being fully in-person this fall semester. Campus has been bustling with activity, and it was especially so over our 2021 Homecoming and Family Weekend. Friday night featured a dinner with our alumni, and some of our current students also attended. Our current students shared their experiences at Indiana Tech and the audience was so delighted to hear how their generous contributions to Indiana Tech scholarship funds are providing students with life-changing opportunities.

On Saturday, President Einolf and I attended eight separate events that took place throughout the day. While every activity was exciting, one special moment was the inaugural home game for our women’s hockey program. During a quick ceremony, President Einolf, athletic director Jessie Biggs and I, dropped the puck to commemorate the occasion.

On Sunday of the homecoming weekend, President Einolf and I traveled to Orlando to meet with some of our alumni who were unable to join us in Fort Wayne. These meetings always give us a chance to share the many exciting things that are happening on campus, especially the expansion and renovation of the Zollner Engineering Center. Many of our long-time alumni were engineering majors and they are happy to hear about the new construction on our campus. Click here and scroll down to see the progress that has been made.

Homecoming and Family Day

Thanks to all who joined us for Homecoming 2021 and Family Weekend, which culminated on Saturday, Oct. 2! If you weren’t able to make it, here’s a glimpse of some of the festivities. Special congratulations to the Indiana Tech women’s ice hockey team on their first win in program history at the home opener!

Career Preparation

Having a degree is an important component in finding a job after graduation. It is essential that students be able to articulate to employers what they learned in the classroom and in their internships, and how they can contribute to the organization on Day 1. That’s why the Indiana Tech Career Center hosts Mock Interview Days—to prepare students for those interviews to come. Held each fall and spring semester, Mock Interview Days include 25-plus employers who volunteer to do four one-on-one interviews with students. Interviews are 30 minutes long, which includes 20 minutes for questions and approximately 10 minutes for feedback to the students. Specially selected employers who have teaching hearts are key to the program; they want to see students improve and they’re willing to donate their time to make sure they learn and grow!

Our next Mock Interview Days will be Oct. 26 through 28; the Career Center is currently registering students with an employer in their chosen field. Students interested in registering just need to stop by the Career Center in Andorfer 229 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Resident Assistants Wanted for 2022-2023!

Is your Warrior looking for a wonderful leadership opportunity? Do they have at least a 2.5 GPA? Does free room and board sound nice?

The Office of Residence Life is looking for resident assistants for the 2022-23 school year. Resident assistants are on the front lines in our residence halls and enrich the residential experience. Please encourage your student to apply. All prospective applicants must attend an information session for their application to be considered. Information sessions will be:

Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 6, 12:30 p.m.

Spring Pre-Registration

It’s time for students to begin registering for spring semester classes! First-year students meet with their Student Success Advisor to select their classes for next semester and learn how to register for classes. Click here to see the Student Success Advisors. Once a student has met with their Student Success Advisor, they are cleared to register for classes on their registration date. The Office of Student Success created a video to assist students as they are registering for classes, which can be found in the my.indianatech portal under the “students” tab in the “Important Student Documents” section. The video is labeled “How to register for classes-video.”

Early in my career, I started two businesses in the 1980s.
This past summer, my wife and I were able to cross off one of our bucket list items when we hot air ballooned over Lake Champlain, Vermont.

Dr. Cortney Robbins

Professor of English and Humanities

I am interested in many subjects and changed my major four times in college. I am working toward a master’s degree in history on a fellowship at Indiana State University because I never want to stop learning.
I have three dogs, Suzie (a bichon/schnauzer mix) and Gryffin and Minerva (shih tzus). They are all small and sassy.
I will take any chance to travel, even if the destination is only a few hours away. The world is a big place, and I want to see as much as I can. Hopefully, Indiana Tech’s weeklong study abroad trip to Tokyo will be able to take place this spring.
My hobbies include knitting, watching true crime shows, browsing Reddit and reading.

Final thoughts from a fellow mom

This fall, Karl and I have been able to visit our sons in Pittsburgh. Thomas is in his last semester at Washington and Jefferson College and is enjoying his final season of playing soccer. We plan to visit him on Saturday for his game. It is senior day, and we will be escorting him on the field. After the game, there is a picnic to celebrate with the whole team and their families. I have to admit that I am very sad to see Thomas hang up his cleats. I have watched him play soccer for about 16 years and I have loved every minute of it. I am grateful that I still have the many sporting events on campus where I can cheer on our students like they were my own kids!

I hope to have an update on Nicholas by the holidays. He is searching for a new job as he will have completed his MBA through Indiana Tech’s online program in December. We continue to be amazed how independent he has become in the last few months.

I can’t believe that Karl and I are already celebrating our 31st anniversary later this month. We plan to get away for a few days and visit Niagara Falls. With all of the traveling I have done throughout my life, I have never been there. We are both looking forward to some rest and relaxation. I wish you all a happy fall season!
