Happy Monday, everyone, and welcome to our latest edition of the CHDCM newsletter! As I’m writing this, our region is gearing up for the big eclipse coming early this afternoon….another reminder that, despite our technologized existence, the natural world can still prompt collective gatherings, storytelling, and a shared experience of wonder (and, in the case of earthquakes, anxiety!). These days, as the sun and warmth of Spring returns—with a promise of more to come—I hope you all are able to enjoy some of the happiness and outdoor activities that accompany this change of seasons.
Even as we enjoy the arrival of Spring, though, we’re also looking ahead—to the next academic year! The past two weeks have been filled with prospective student events, both graduate and undergraduate, and as always I am grateful to every member of our CHDCM community who has participated in our tours, open houses, receptions, and Pirate Preview days. I’m so grateful to the all of the faculty, student ambassadors, Graduate Assistants, staff, and administrators who have given so much time and energy to these events—and, thanks to your efforts, I look forward to welcoming a new group of Pirates in August!
In the meantime, as we gear up for registration, exams, and graduation, I hope you all remain healthy and well. And, as you take a pre- or post-eclipse break, I invite you to read through this newsletter, and learn about what our amazing people are up to—because there is lots of great stuff to check out in this edition! Otherwise, please keep your good news and event notes coming, and have a wonderful remainder of your week!
