California Indoor Mask Mandate Updates
The California Department of Public Health statewide indoor mask mandate expired on February 15th. The indoor mask mandate expiration extends to fully vaccinated individuals, including booster vaccine, and requires unvaccinated individuals to wear face-covering in public spaces such as retail stores, restaurants, theaters, businesses, healthcare facilities, and government offices. Those who are fully vaccinated are recommended to wear a mask indoors when the risk of transmission is high. Surgical masks or higher-level respirators (e.g., N95s, KN95s, KF94s) with good fit are highly recommended.
Masks are still required in various places regardless of vaccination status including:
- Public transit and transportation hubs – trains, airplanes, rideshares, buses, and airport terminals.
- K-12 schools and childcare centers
- Emergency shelters
- Cooling and heating centers
- Health care facilities (including Student Health & Counseling Services)
- Correctional facilities and detention centers
- Homeless shelters
- Long-term care, adult, and senior care facilities
- Indoor mega-events with more than 500 attendees
Sacramento State will continue to require individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings in all indoor public spaces until further notice. This applies to classrooms, hallways, offices, workout and practice areas, restrooms, computer labs, study areas, athletic facilities, and any other indoor public spaces.
Masks and vaccines, including booster vaccines, are still the most effective way to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus and flu virus. It is encouraged to continue to mask for all who are immunocompromised, have COVID-19 or cold/flu-like symptoms, not feeling well, traveling or plan to travel, attending indoor events or large outdoor events.
We are all in this together and encourage you all to still mask where you feel comfortable, including on-campus where required. Please remember to respect each other and the Hornet Honor Code.

Peer Counselor Appointments Available
Students are experiencing a great need for mental and emotional health services with the continued pandemic and returning to the “new normal” of the start of the semester. Please encourage students, and yourselves to be kind, gentle, and have grace as we settle into the new semester that is underway.
Peer Counseling is a non-judgmental space to provide peer support for students to speak confidentially about what's on their minds or to check in on their mental health. Peer Counselors are helpful listeners and trained to support peers through their mental health concerns. Peer Counselors are excited to help their peers and support their mental well-being.

Peer Counseling is now available for 30-minute appointments at Sac State and is a great resource for students seeking mental and emotional support. Peer Counselors also provide support to students in both Spanish and English. Please review the link to "Meet the Peer Counselors" or make an appointment at the link below.
Please note, Peer Counselors are not licensed, professionals. If in need of professional support or assistance for student mental health, contact Student Health & Counseling Services at 916-278-6461.

Scholarship Opportunities: Emergence in Transition
Historically, scholarships have marked significant movement in both social and political change. The communities and stories reflected in the diversification of scholarship awards, current, and potential donors, and community partnerships speak to the power of collaborative effort.
Today, the Scholarship Office at Sacramento State seeks to support our students as we all navigate life in transition— as a University, as a community, and as individuals.
As we approach the 2022-2023 Academic year, our office would like to highlight the importance of encouraging students to apply for scholarships by the March 2 deadline and are requesting your assistance in promoting our opportunities.
“Applying for scholarships is an investment in your future. Through the generosity of our donors, we’ve doubled the number of scholarships available to Sac State students. I encourage all students to apply for scholarships, even if they think they might not qualify. Remember, you can’t get a scholarship if you don’t apply.”
- Dr. Ed Mills
The Scholarship Office is dedicated to advocating for student academic success through continued and unwavering financial support and placing strong value in the impact of communal effort. As the saying goes, “it takes a village.”
