Winners in each category – along with their managers and members of our volunteer working committee – are invited to attend the event in person while it's live-streamed on Facebook on Tuesday, Jan. 30
Our guest speaker will be Dan Pippenger, Chief Operating Officer with the Port of Portland, who will be providing an update on the status of airport operations and what we might expect to see in the coming year – including a look at our new main terminal opening May 2024!

What's New with PDX Next: Ticket Lobby and Southwest Counters
Ticket Lobby: Now through Friday, Jan. 19, from midnight to 3 a.m., crews will hang and finish the overhead ceiling soffit in the ticket lobby near the north escalators. Access will be blocked to one or two escalators at a time for safety, and a spotter will be present to direct pedestrian traffic around the closed area and to the elevators.
Today, Monday, Jan. 15, and Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., crews will work on fire sprinkler seismic installations in the ticket lobby along the east edge of Southwest, American and Delta queues. Crews will start on the north and work south, and work will be performed from a scissor lift with a spotter present.
Southwest Ticket Counter: Starting today, Monday, Jan. 15, through Friday, Feb. 9, crews will relocate Southwest ticket counters to the area previously occupied by Air Canada. Southwest kiosks will not be impacted by these activities.

Plan Ahead for Major MAX Red Line Disruption
Starting yesterdaym, Sunday, Jan. 14, though Sunday, Feb. 25, if you take MAX to work, know that your trip to PDX may take an extra 45 to 60 minutes. During this period, the MAX Red Line will be suspended, the Gateway Transit Center will be closed and the Blue and Green lines will be disrupted. For some trips, regular bus service may be fastest – plan your trip in advance now. In addition to the second light rail track that’s already providing more reliable service to and from PDX, by Fall 2024, you’ll also enjoy a new pedestrian-bicycle path that parallels the light rail tracks and continues to the Northeast 82nd and Air Cargo Road intersection, and 10 more Red Line stations in Beaverton and Hillsboro.
Reminder: Share Your Thoughts on TriMet Service to PDX
If you currently use or would like to use TriMet to get to work, we hope you'll take a few moments to complete a short survey about potential future bus service at PDX.
Survey participants will be entered into a raffle drawing for a chance to win a TriMet Hop card or a family pass to the Oregon Zoo.
Public agencies are working together to improve bus service on 82nd Avenue. This project will replace the existing Line 72 on 82nd Avenue with TriMet FX™ – the agency’s new Frequent Express bus service. FX will bring new stations and faster, more reliable transit service between Clackamas Town Center and a turnaround point north of Sandy Boulevard.
We want your feedback on your transportation needs by Thursday, Jan. 18. Please complete this brief survey to help us better understand how you get to and from work, typical shift hours and employee demand for transit. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The holiday was established to recognize the life and contributions of Dr. King, as well as inspire people to volunteer to improve their communities.
The first official Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was celebrated on Jan. 20, 1986. In 1994, Congress designated the holiday as a national day of service and marked the third Monday in January as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. This is the only federal holiday commemorating an African-American.
Head over to Hands On Greater Portland to see a variety of volunteer activities, some that you can do at any time, including assembling care kits for the houseless with Blanchet House. Or, if you're interested in gaining new knowledge, make plans to attend the United Way of King County's virtual lunch and learn on responsible volunteerism on Wednesday, Jan.17.
PDX in Pictures
Last week, PDX People and the Port of Portland Police Department hosted three employee-focused events to spread awareness of the Blue Lightning Initiative (BLI) – a program led by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Transportation to help train airport employees to identify potential traffickers and human trafficking victims, and to report their suspicions to federal law enforcement. Thank you to PDX People who came out to learn about this important initiative and to everyone who helped make these events happen.
Want to learn more and be entered to win $100? Head to the PDX People website to watch a 25-minute video on common indicators of trafficking that airport employees may encounter, and how to immediately report suspected trafficking to law enforcement. Once you've watched the training, you can enter to win a $100 gift card for helping keep PDX safe and secure (open through Wednesday, Jan. 31).
