SPECIAL TRIP:
VALLEY VOICES SPRING READING EVENT - FREE!
New River Valley Voices is an all-volunteer group started by local writers to achieve a twofold mission:
I. To challenge and inspire NRV writers by creating a quality forum within which to share their writing – a place, both literal and figurative, between the extremes of highly competitive literary journals and open-mic venues.
II. To build audiences for the literary arts in our community by refining writers’ performance of their written works; by providing entertaining programs for the public; and by networking and collaborating with writers and supporters of literary art in our community.
New River Valley Voices sponsors bi-annual juried writing competitions, which are followed by public presentations of the selected works. The contest judges are well known figures in the New River Valley writing community. Past judges have included Ed Falco, Sharyn McCrumb, and Larsen Bowker.  The finalists from each competition present their stories and poems at a public reading. Since the success of a literary reading before a live audience requires presentations that engage and entertain an audience, the finalists receive one-on-one professional coaching.

MOVIE NIGHT AT KARR:  SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
April Showers brings... Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O' Connor to Karr Activity Center.  Some of cinemas most famous songs and dance routines come together in this joyous film, co-directed by Stanley Donen and acrobatic dancer-star-choreographer Gene Kelly.  A charming, up-beat, graceful and thoroughly enjoyable experience with great songs, lots of flashbacks, wonderful dances, casting and story. This was another extraordinary example of the organic, 'integrated musical' in which the characters naturally express their emotions in the midst of their lives. Song and dance replace the dialogue, usually during moments of high spirits or passionate romance.
Rain or shine...the show must go on.  The refreshment stand opens at 6:30 pm with the film starting at 7 pm.
