Recently, in the veterinary press and trade magazines, there have been mentions of new companies being launched that will, for a fee, allow pet owners to video chat with a veterinarian about their pet.  TVMA has reviewed the available information and wanted to warn our members that participation in such a venture may constitute a violation of the Tennessee Veterinary Practice Act and might expose a participating veterinarian to disciplinary action by the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.  Read more...
Meetings to Learn More about Animal Assisted Therapy
Free informational meetings for those interested in becoming volunteers with Human Animal Bond in Tennessee (HABIT), an animal-assisted therapy program, will be held at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. and at the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m.  Click here for more information
Clinic Flyers Available on Antimicrobial Use
The AVMA has developed two new clinic fliers to educate cat and dog owners about appropriate antimicrobial use. It’s also releasing two new documents providing do’s and don’ts for veterinarians treating cats and dogs with antimicrobials.  Read more.  
AVMA Invites Applications for Council on Education
Applications are now available to members interested in serving on AVMA’s Council on Education (COE).  The deadline for receipt of applications for the COE is February 15, 2016.  More information on the COE is available here. The COE Member Application is available here on the AVMA website.

Ben Heithcock
Dechra


Ben Heithcock has been a Territory Manager with Dechra Veterinary Products for more than 4 years.  He is currently responsible for Tennessee but his territory has consisted of Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas.  Ben recently received the Dechra Southeast Territory Manager of the Year award.  He worked as a Distribution Representative in Animal Health for 5 years prior to joining the DVP team.  He attended Columbia State Community College where he received an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology.  Ben completed his Bachelors degree in Animal Science at Middle Tennessee State University where he met his wife Rebekah Heithcock, DVM.  Ben and Bekah live in Chapel Hill TN with their two daughters: Charlotte Reese & Lucy Bennett, 4 American Quarter Horses, two dogs, and two cats.  Ben enjoys riding his horses and spending time with his family and friends during his free time.
