Stratification, or the unequal distribution of nutrients within the soil profile, has been well documented across Wisconsin, with the most concentrated nutrients existing within the upper 2” of soil in all fields. Having reduced or eliminated tillage on more acreage across Wisconsin in recent decades, it is worth considering what has happened to soil stratification over that time, especially when it comes to Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K). First, let’s review a couple of factors that may contribute to stratification in reduced tillage settings.

The Milk from the Udder World Workshop was hosted in Fond du Lac this month and it brought the attention of farms in other Counties in the region. Managers and workers came to the event to learn how milk is produced and how to prevent mastitis. Carolina Pinzon, the creator of the training has also shared this article titled A Smarter Approach to Mastitis Treatment for Modern Dairy Farms. I hope it is of interest since it intends to illustrate a way of treating mastitis that can help prevent waste of time and resources at your farm.

To prepare high school students for their Government Day field trip, Diana, with help from Emily, Kirtis, and Google Gemini, designed this game focused on Sheboygan County Government. 

In this version, players are like County Department Heads, managing a budget.

The 2025 Positive Youth Development Institute Impact Report is jam-packed with inspiring stories of youth finding and developing their sparks with help from trusted adults. With support from 4-H, youth are learning, growing and connecting to be Beyond Ready for life and work. 

Kirtis Orendorff has continued outreach efforts throughout Sheboygan County since starting his role in March 2026, including attending 10 commission and board meetings among various municipalities. Attendance of these meetings has allowed Kirtis to network with the local government officials he will be working with in the future, as well as be available for technical assistance when the need arises. With assistance from PYD, Kirtis is also helping to organize a Community Needs Forum for Sheboygan County. The goal of this forum is to gather officials from the 28 different municipalities as well as county officials to understand what pressing issues the county is facing as a whole in the sphere of local government.
